Description

(No Model.)
B. J. OQUINN.
DOOR SECURER.
Patented Sept.
UNITED STATES BRYANT J. OQUINN, OF KISSIMMEE, FLORIDA.
PATENT OFFICE.
DOOR-SECURER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 435,589, dated September 2, 1890.
Application filed April 9, 1890i Serial No. 347,176. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
3e it known that I, BRYANT J. OQUINN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kis siniinee, in the county of Osceola and State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Door Securer, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in door-securers.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive door-securer adapted to be conveniently carried in the pocket and capable of being quickly applied and adjusted to a door without disiigu ring the casing.
rFhe invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claiins hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 'l is a perspective view of a door-securer constructed in accordance with the invention and showing the position of the parts when applied toa door. Fig. is a similar view, illustrating the position of the parts when arranged to be carried in the pocket. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view, the parts being in the position shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the key.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, l designates a plate constructed of suitable metal, preferably springsteel, and composed of leaves 2 and 3, which are formed of a single piece of inetal doubled upon itself to provide a cylindrical eye 4l, which gives the plates a certain aniount of spring and enables them to be spread. The plate 3 is provided at its free end with a blade 5, formed by bending the end of the plate at right angles and adapted to engage the casing of the door to secure the plate thereto. The plate l is designed to be arranged flat against the casing and have its blade inserted in the same, and it is retained against lateral movement, and the displacement of the blade is prevented by the door when closed, and the leaves 2.and 3 of the plate are provided with slots G, through which is passed a wedge-shaped key 7, that engages the casin g and the door and prevents the latter being opened. Should the space between the casing and the door be greater in width than the thickness of the plates, the latter inay be spread and plugged with paper or some similar substance which will hold them spread and enable them te lill the space, which will prevent the blade becoming aceidcntally displaced. The key 7 when not in use is arranged between the leaves 2 and 3 of the plates and is retained in that position by a projection or point S, which is formed by striking up the metal of the slot 6, and which engages a central perforation f) of the key, and the said key 7 has its outer edge bent upon itself to form a bead 10, which provides a casing to receive the blade 5 and prevents a person being cut while carrying the device, and also protects the pocket from in j u ry. In placing the key between the plates it is arranged edgewise to the plate with its bead or casin g opposite the blade, and it is slipped laterally between the plates, the blade lying in the bead or casing and there being sufficient room between the edge of the easingand the key to permit the passage of the plate 3.
From the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings the construction, op eration, and advantages of the invention will readily be understood.
That I claim is- 1. A door-securer consisting of a plate l, provided with the blade 5 and constructed of a single piece of metal bent .upon itself to form the leaves l and 3, and the cylindrical eye 4, said plate being provided with the slot 6, and the wedge-shaped key constructed of sheet nietal and adapted to engage this slot and fit between the leaves when not in use, substantially as described.
2. A door-securer consisting of the plate l, provided with the blade 5 and the slot G and constructed of a single piece of metal bent upon itself to forni the cylindrical eye and the leaves 2 and 3, and the wedge-shaped key adapted to be arranged when not in use between the leaves 2 and 3 and provided with the bead or casing l0 to receive the blade, substantially as described.
3. A door-securer consisting of the plate l, having the blade 5 and the slot G and constructed of a single piece of metal doubled to form the cylindrical eye 4 and the leaves IOO 2 and 3, Said plate being` provided with a pro my own I have hereto eixed mysiguatui-e in jeetion o1' point S, and the Wedge-shaped key presence of t-Wo Witnesses. having a perforation 9, adapted to be engaged f by said point or projection and being1 pro- BRYANT J. OQUINN. 5 vided with the bead oi' easing l0, adapted to Yv'i'messes:
