SASH-HOLDER.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 15, 1916.
Application led J u1y7, 1915. Serial No. 38,493.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN REINERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Millvale, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sash-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention contemplates the provision of a sash holder to take the place of the well known Sash cord and weight now in use.
The primary object of the present invention is the provision of a device of this character which is simple in construction, and when operatively positioned with respect to the sash will prevent rattling of the latter, permit the same to be readily and easily adjusted, and hold the sash in any desired adjusted position.
Other objects will appear from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the specific construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawing forming a part of this application like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and in which:
Figure l is a front elevation of the preferred form of the invention in applied position. Fig. 2 is a view of the device showing the casing in section, which section is takenA on line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
In the preferred form of my invention, the sash holder comprises a barrel 5 constructed from a single length Yof suitable material, having oppositely disposed attaching ears 6 adapted to be secured to the sash 7 by means of the fastening elements S in a manner whereby the barrel will be arranged horizontally. The barrel is closed at one end except for a restricted opening through which the headed end of the pin 9 projects, the latter being slidably mounted within the barrel and has secured to the opposite end thereof, integrally or otherwise a substantially rectangular plate forming a shoe 10. Arranged within the barrel and encircling the pin 9 is a coil spring l1 having its terminals bearing against the end of the barrel and the shoe 1U, and operating to normally retain the latter projected for engagement with the window casing, to prevent rattling ofthe sash and for holding the same in any desired position, the head l2 of the pin being disposed exteriorly of the barrel and adapted to abut the closed end thereof to limit the movement of the pin in one direction. The face of the plate adjacent the window casing is perfectly smooth and the opposite Vends slightly curved inwardly to prevent any binding between the shoe and the casing which would tend to interfere with the raising or lowering of the window.
It is believed that from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the nature and Aadvantages of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more eX- tended explanation and therefore the same has been omitted.
lVhat I claim is A sash holder comprising a casing formed from a single length of material and including a barrel, and oppositely disposed attachingflanges, said barrel having one end wall provided with a restricted central opening, a headed plunger' slidable within the barrel and through said opening, a shoe on the free end of said plunger disposedl exteriorly of the open end of the barrel, a spring encircling said plunger and terminally engaging the said end wall of the barrel and said shoe to normallymaintain the latter in extended position-and said head of the plunger being adapted to enl gage said end wall to limit the movement of said plunger in one direction.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN REINERT.
