UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC SIFF, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO MORRIS IVENGROYVSKY, OF SAME PLACE.
WATCH-G UARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 424,362, dated March 25, 1890.
lpplication filed December 17, 1889. Serial No. 334,101. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ISAAC SIFF, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved WVatch-Guard, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide an attachment for watch-pockets or vests that will lock the pocket and prevent the abstraction of the watch.
In general the invention consists of locking devices applied to one side of the pocket, a catch or hasp to the opposite side, with which the locking device engages and holds, and an arrangement for releasing the catch from the locking device, consisting of a cord extending to some other part of the waistcoat, preferably to the upper pocket. I should of course make all the parts small and flat, so as not to be in the way or occasion any inconvenience in the ordinary use of the pocket.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of a waistcoat with my invention applied thereto, the upper and lower pockets being broken away. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail View with the lining of the waistcoat broken away to expose the locking device. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view showing the catch or hasp.
The locking device consists of a casing A, containing a spring-bolt at, whose end works opposite the opening a in the face of the case. The casing is provided with perforated flanges, by which it may be secured by stitches a to the material of the waistcoat. For instance, in Fig. 2, which is a view from theinwatch-pocket the clasp or hasp D is stitched in such relation to the aperture a that it may be pressed into it. With this arrangement when the catch D is pressed into the opening a and engaged by the bolt a the pocket cannot be opened; but by pulling upon the string 0 the bolt may be lifted and the catch withdrawn from the locking device.
I claim as my invention 1. The combination, substantially as hereinbefore set forth, of the vertically-sliding bolt, its casing secured to one wall of a pocket, the catch or hasp secured to the opposite wall of the pocket with which the bolt engages, and a cord for operating the bolt.
2. The combination, substantially as hereinbefore set forth, of the spring-actuated v0:
tically-sliding locking-bolt, its casing secured to one wall of a pocket, the hasp secured to the opposite wall of the pocket and extending through an aperture in the bolt-casing, and a cord extending upwardly from the bolt between the cloth of the garment and its lining.
3. The combination, substantially as hereinbefore set forth, of the vertically-sliding bolt, its casing having perforations adapting it to be stitched or secured on one side of the wall of a pocket between the interior wall thereof and the lining of the garment, the hasp secured to the opposite side of the pocket and extending into an aperture in the boltcasing opposite the end of the bolt, and a cord secured to the upper end of the bolt, passing upwardly between the cloth and lining of the garment, and projecting through an aperture in the upper part thereof.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name. I
ISAAC SIFF. Witnesses:
EDWARD O. DAVIDSON, MAMIE J. KELLEY.
