PATENT CFEICE.
WATCH-GUARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 771,991, dated October 11, 1904. Application led December 5,1903. Serial No. 183,886. (No model.)
T0 all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD MARPERT, of Coburg, in the Duchy of SaXe-Coburg-Gotha, in the Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Watch- Guards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to watch-guards for waistcoat-pockets and the pockets of other garments, and has for its object to -provide a holder for the reception of the watch loop or chain, which holder is capable of being locked in position, so that any surreptitious abstraction of the watch or of the chain from the pocket is precluded.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in two modifications.
Figure l is a front view of one modification suitable for use in waistcoat-pockets. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation corresponding'to Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation corresponding to Fig. 2, showing the holder open. Figs. 4, 5, and 6 are those corresponding to Figs. 1, 2, and 3 of another modification suitable for use in trousers-pockets.
s In carrying the invention into effect, as illustrated in Figs. 1 to 3, I provide a casing a, which I sew up between the material c of the waistcoat and the lining Z thereof and in va position immediately behind the waistcoatpocket, holes b being provided for the purpose of sewing, and the pocket-flap b' is connected with the holder f, carried by the flap-plate e, in the manner indicated in dotted lines in Figs. 2 and 3. Within the casing a guide-bars g are provided, within which slide the lockingbolt i. This bolt is provided with a thumbpiece'c, secured to an arm e', fixed to the bolt, and a spiral spring Z is arranged upon the bolt, by which the bolt is normally maintained in the locked position. Upon the back and within the casing a a spring m is provided, and this spring carries a nose n, by which the locking-bolt Z is held in its disengaged position, as illustrated in Fig. 3.
In the modification of Figs. 4, 5, and 6 the holder f is hinged at 0 and is connected -with the inner face of the pocket-flap bf, as indicated in dotted lines. YIn these figures the locking-bolt h is shown in horizontal position.
In all the figures the chain is indicated by the reference-letter p.
It will be understood that when the chain is placed in position and the catch f of the flap-plate e inserted into the slot provided for the purpose in the casing a the spring m. is caused by it to disengage the locking-bolt, which latter then passes through the hole in the catch f, and thus firmly locks the holder e and the pocket-flap in position. By pressing the thumb-piece c the bolt L is brought down, whereby the nose n of the spring on, disengages the catch f into the position illustrated in Figs. 3 and 6, respectively, so that then the chain and the watch can be removed from the pocket without difficulty.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim isl. A watch-guard for pockets comprising a casing adapted to be confined between the lining and the material of the garment, a plate movable with the pocket-flap and having a catch projecting at right angles therefrom to enter a slot in the casing, and a spring-actuated bolt in the casing independent of the said plate and movable at right angles to and adapted to engage said catch.
2. i A watch-guard for pockets comprising a casing adapted to be confined between the lining and the material of the garment, a plate movable with the pocket-flap, a spring-plate secured to the back of the casing and provided with a nose, and a spring-actuated bolt adapted to be held in its disengaged position by said nose, and to be engaged with said plate that is movable with the pocket -ap, said springplate being located in position to be engaged by a catch on the plate of the iiap as the catch is inserted into the casing.
3. A watch-guard for pockets comprising a casing adapted to be confined between the lining and the material of the garment, a plate movable with the pocket-Hap and having a iXed to said bolt parallel therewith and prorght-angled catch with opening', a Springvided with a thumb-piece. 10 plate secured to the back of the casing and In testimony whereof I alix my signature. provided with a nose, and a Spring-actuated RICHARD MARPERT bolt adapted to be held in its disengaged pov sition by said nose, and to be engaged with In presence of the opening in the catch on said plate that is GEORG HMMEL, movable with the pocket-flap, and an arm TOBIAS GRUNER.
