UN TED STATES ENT FICEQ HERIBERT BAUER, OF PFORZHEIM, BADEN, GERMANY.
FASTENING FOR GLOVES AND OTHER ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 321,940, dated July 14, 1885.
Application filed April '20. 1885 I0 all whom/it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HERIBERT BAUER, of the city of Pforzheim, Baden, Germany, have invented a new and useful Fastener for Pantaloons and Gloves, of which the following is a specification.
The spring button-fastener is intended to facilitate the closing and opening of the flaps of gentleniens trousers, and is essentially c011- structed as follows, reference being made to the drawings, in'which Figure 1 is a front view, and Figs. 2 and 4 are side views, of a flat metallic spring. Figs. 3, 5, 6, and 7 show details.
A fiat metallic spring, a, is provided in two or more places with apertures b and bridge pieces or curved metal strips 0 laid across the same. A guard-piece, cl, is fixed behind each aperture on the spring, which latter is curved. An elastic button, 6, is passed through each of the apertures 11, its bent or shank ends 6 e being pushed into the guard placed at the back. Thus secured the button can be somewhat compressed, but cannot be removed from the guard without using force. The flat spring is pierced in several places to allow it to be firmly sewed on inside the upper part of the flap in such manner that the buttons are turned toward the lower part of the same. Small metal plates 9, pierced with small holes h, are sewed onto thelower part of the flap, one for each button. In the middle of the metal plate there is an aperture, z, and a corresponding hole is punched in the lower part of the flap. If the flap has to be closed, the
buttons are simply pressed into the plates.
The button 6, whose head is ratherlarger than the opening 1', yields when entering the latter, but expands again as soon as it has passed through, and so a secure fastening is formed.
The buttons can be drawn out of the openings i in the plates by the upper part of the flap, so that the latter is easily opened.
The flat metallic spring a adapts itself to every movement, and, being curved inward, the upper part of the flap presses against the lower, and the dress is always in order, even when the buttons do not catch in the openings.
To apply the spring button fastener to glives and other portions of dress, it can be fastened in such a manner that the buttons are turned outward. Thisis especially desirable in the case of gloves.
The springs a can be made of any length, and any number of buttons can be used.
VVhatI claim is Aspring button fastener for trousers, gloves, and other wearing-apparel, comprising in its construction a spring, a, having apertures 1), strips 0, and guards d, spring-buttons 6, held with their ends 6 e in the guards d, and plates 9, provided with aperture 72, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HERIBERT BAUER.
