WNER- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 23, 1918.
Application filed January 29, 1918. Serial No. 214,393.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES STEWART, a citizen of the Dominion of New Zealand, and residing at 2 Finch street, Morningside, in the Provincial District of Auckland, in the Dominion of New Zealand, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Securing Means for Watches, Keys, and the like upon the Person of the Owner, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for securing a watch, key and the like upon the person of the owner, so that the same cannot be readily stolen by a pickpocket.
According to this invention the ordinary pocket of a pair of trousers or other garment is provided with an inner pocket having a flap securable by a dome or other fastener. A leather or metal band has a fastener inside the inner pocket and a watch or other valuable article is attached to the band by the fastener. The band passes through a slit in the flap, and outside the inner pocket is provided with a ring to which a key chain is attached. The band passes through another slot to the inner side of the garment where it is secured by a dome or other fastener.
The invention may be conveniently and advantageously carried into practice as shown in the accompanying drawing, where the invention is shown embodied in a pair of trousers.
Figure 1, is a front elevation and Fig. 2, is a cross sectional elevation through the pocket,
Fig. 3, is a front elevation of a pocket showing a modification, and
Fig. 4, a side elevation of the securing means showing a modification.
The invention is illustrated in the draw ing as applied to the pocket of a pair of trousers, but it must be understood that the invention is equally applicable to other garments.
The ordinary pocket 1 is provided with an inner pocket 2 having a flap 3 for closing the same and securable by a dome or th r fa tener a A l ath or metal band 5 has inside the pocket 2 a fastener 6, by which a watch 7 or the like is attached.
The band 5 passes through a slit 8 at the top of the flap 3 and outside the said pocket 2 the band 5 is provided with a ring 9 to which a key chain 10 is attached. The upper part of the band 5 passes through another slit 11 to the inner side of the garment, where it is secured by a dome or other fastener 12.
In Figs. 3 and 4 double pockets 13 and 14: have a single flap 3', and a ring 9 is replaced by a rectangular metal loop 15 having a crossbar 16 to which a length of ribbon or fob 17 is attached for the purpose of suspending an ornament, such as a medal or coin 18 outside the pocket.
What I do claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is l. The herein described securing means, comprising a pocket with a flap having a fastener, a band having a fastener for a watch or the like and passing through a slit in the said flap and passing through a slit in the said garment, and a fastener securing the band to the inner side of the garment, substantially as set forth.
2. The herein described securing means, comprising an inner pocket with a flap within an ordinary pocket of a garment and having a fastener, a band having a fastener for a watch or the like and passing through a slit in the said flap and passing through a slit in the said garment, and a fastener securing the band to the inner side of the garment, substantially as set forth.
3. The herein described securing means, comprising an inner pocket with a flap within an ordinary pocket of a garment and having a fastener, a band having a fastener for a watch or the like and passing through a slit in the said flap and passing through the slit in the said garment, a ring upon the band and a fastener securing the band to the inner side of the garment, substantially as set forth,
4. The herein described securing means, comprising an inner pocket With a fla within an ordinary pocket of a garmen and having a fastener, a band having a fas- In testimony whereof I have signed my tener, for a Watch or the like and passing name to this specification in the presence 10 through a slit in the said flap and passing of two Witnesses. through a slit in the said garment, a metal 5 loop upon the said band having a; crossbar, r v a fob attached to the said bar and a fastener Witnesses: securing the band to, the inner side of the e D. A, MGCONNELL, garment, substantially as set forth. "MARY G. BEEDYE.
