B. ARNOLD.
v TUBE 0R BASE FOR HOLDING DRAWINGS. No. 423,712. Patented Mar. 18, 1890.
WITNESSES: INVENTOR: JKQJMM ID I STATES BENJAMIN ARNOLD, on EAST GREENWICH, Brienr its;
TUBE oR CASE FOR HOLDlNG DRAWlNGS.
SPECIFICATION forming-part of Letters Patent No. 423,712, dated March 18,1890.
' Application filed March 12, 1889- Serial No. 302,961. (No nodel.) V
to'the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part'of this specifications This invention relates more especially to I the paper tubes or cases used for holdingand transmitting drawings and suchlilge articles as would be injured by being folded,'and also where more perfect exclusion of airand light isdesirable, as in undeveloped photographic products, &c. It is fully illuistrated, soas to bereadily coinprehended'in the, accompanying drawings. I l
Figure l showshafrontx elevation of the tuloe or case closed and sealed; Fig. 2 represents the two parts of the case separate, with a drawing inserted in eaohpart. Fig.3 shows the manner of holding and: .opening thejcase.
Fig. 4 shows a longitudinal section'of one end of the case. Fig.

The tubes vor cases are of case: "In one end of eachpartaa head 1),
way as washers are made frorn'sheet metal. The tube orcas'e as a whole'is-constiucted by joining'two ofoth'ese parts a together 'at'their" openf'ends b a strip br band d, of muslin or other suitab e material, wrapped around thejunction of the two parts; with a moist gumn ed surface, so that the strip will adhere to each part of the tube or case," The outer end d of the strip cZ'is left projecting and not 'gumined down to the tube like the rest of the strip. This end cl is left free for the purpose of afiording a ready hold to the fingers when the case is to be opened, which is done by taking hold of he free end and stripping SviS thQ Same withabar-iusualway, g I I v h vt v f ,Tf 's way of inclosing drawings, 620., remade intwo'parts' a '64, preferably of; equal length to avoid the necessity for. making o'r'keeping in stock more than one length for any particular'size A label 8, for the directionot the case or as a the band ofi of the tulre or case." To use the tube or ease for 'inclosiingya drawing, the drawinglisafirst rolled 11p s'mall enough and one part oif the case put at,
and before'letting goof the roll the oth end of it'is inserted in the other part/of'tlf case.
