To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HERMAN L. GREVE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of N ew York, have invented certain. new and useful Improvements in Mailing' Tubes or Wrappers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apper tains to make and use the same.

rlFhis invention relates to improvements in mailing tubes or wrappers.

'Ihe object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive form'of mailing tube or wrapper which when not in use may be spread out flat thus facilitating the packing and storing thereof, and which when desired for use may be quickly rolled into cy lindrical shape to form a tube for mailing or other purposes, means being provided whereby the tube is securely held in rolled position, said fastening means being readily released to permit the opening of the roll without cutting or tearing any part thereof or of the fastener, thus providing for the safe removal of the contents.

With this and other objects in View, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the inner side of a wrapper before being rolled; 2 is a section taken on line 2&2 of Fig. l; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the wrapper after being rolled with its ends tucked in and secured; Fig. l is a detail sectional view taken on line d-t of Fig. l; and Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the fastening device detached.

In the embodiment illustrated, an outer sheet l is shown preferably composed of tough strong paper or other suitable iexible fabric having one end cut on the bias as shown at Ia whereby a pointed flap 2 is provided at one side of the wrapper. The fiap 2 having the bias edge l is designed to be wound tightly around the body of the wrapper when in rolled or operative position to secure it with the least possible danger of tearing of the edge and the consequent unwinding of the wrapper. In the point of this flap 2 near the inclined edge thereof is arranged a metal fastener 3 which is pasted,

riveted or otherwise suitably secured to the outer face of the flap.. This fastener 3 is preferably composed of a strip of soft metal andthe inner face of the flap :2 has a reinforcing strip i of paper or other suitable fabric preferably arranged opposite the strip 3. t

Pasted or otherwise fastened to the inner face of the sheet l is a sheet 5 of strawboard, corrugated paper, paste-board or other suitable material and this sheet 5 eX- tends from the straight end of the sheet l to a point near the flap 2 and is of slightly less width than the sheet l thereby providing along each edge of said sheet 5, a flexible marginal strip which is adapted to be folded or tucked into the edge of the tube after it has been rolled and the goods to be shipped placed therein.

A wrapper of this character, maybe rolled to form tubes of different sizes for the safe packing or shipping of valuable papers or merchandise of varying bulk and it is espe cially adapted for use in mailing or carrying pictures, unmounted photographs, drawings, sheets of music and the like, and the article to be inclosed may be wrapped in with the sheet when being rolled into tubular form or it may be inserted after the tube is formed as may be desired. The flap portion 2 is preferably provided on its outer face with lines to receive the address or other matter desired to be written thereon and when said flap is rolled into the position shown in Fig. 2 the pointed end of the flap is tucked in and the metal strip is bentI down over the edge of the roll and securely fastens the tube in closed position.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, ]fn.'oportim1 and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as defined in the appended claim.

I claim as my invention.

opposite end being flush with the edge of the semi-rigid sheet and a malleable metal stripV secured to the Hap on its bias edge, said malleable strip having its longitudinal center interseeted by a line extending from the adj aeent side of the ,semi-rigid sheet Wheref byl when the overlapping ends of the flexible sheet are tucked in the tube formed by the semi-rigid sheet, the malleable strip will be 10 bent to clamp the ap to the tube with onehalf of its body on the inside of the tubo and one-half on the outside.
