SPECIFICATION forming pait of Letters Patent No. 422,669, dated March. 4, 1890.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HUDSON J. UrrHEcRovn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Valparaiso, in the county of Porter and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wearing-Apparel; and I do hereby declare the following to .be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to wearing-apparel,

. such as coats or other similar top garments;

and it consists in a garment provided with two crescent-shaped pieces of flexible material or fabric which are stitched to each other along their convex edges and are afterward stitched along their concave edges to the material of the body of the garment under the armpits, and stitched also to the under curve of the sleeve edge at its inner end, as hereinafter described and claimed.

Figure 1 represents a front view of a coat, showing my improvement applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a detail view ot one arm elevated and a portion of the body of a coat, and showing my device extended. Fig. 3 is a pian view .of one of the intcrposing pieces in blank cut in crescent shape, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings annexed, and which pieces are stitched to one another, as at e, Fig. 4, and the inner edges f being sewed to the arm or sleeve and body a, respectively, as shown at gand h, thus presenting a V-shaped piece in cross-section, which is capable of being extended and contracted, according to the movement of the wearers arm. This device, it will be seen from the above description and by reference to the drawings, is designed to give ease and comfort to the wearer when in the act of raising the arm, and it is especially adapted to garments worn by Sportsmenl in raising the foWling-piece to the shoulder, thus relieving the arm of Weight,which maybe in the pockets of the garment. It is also well 4adapted for garments of the laborer, as well as others who iind it necessary to elevate their arms While at work, and can be readily applied to overalls and the like. At the same time itis durable and cheap to manufacture.

Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s

The combination, with a coat or other similar outner garment cnt away under the arms, ot two crescent-shaped pieces of iiexible fabric stitched to each other along their convex edges, and stitched along their concave edges to the material of the body of the garment under the arms and to the`under curve of the sleeve end adjacent to the armholes of the garment, substantially as specified.
