T. W. FISH. SUSPENDEB; TRIMMING.
.354. Patented Feb. 11, 1890.
ATTOR/VE ,s.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HALF TO SAMUEL WV.
FISH, OF SAME PLACE.
SUSPENDER-TRIMMING.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 421,354, dated February 11, 18190.
Application filed December 31, 1888. Serial No. 295,001- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS W. FISH, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia,State of Pennsylvania, have invented anew and usefullmprovement in Suspenders, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of certain improve- IO ments in trimmings for suspenders, as will be hereinafter set forth and definitely claimed.
Figure 1 represents a view of a pair of suspenders embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a modification showing the upper I 5 loop forming with the ends of the lower loop a buckle.
Similar letters and, numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the straps usual in a pair of suspenders.
B designates the pieces for connecting the tabs 1 with the straps A. The piece or trimming B, as shown, is formed of bent wire, consisting of the V-shaped part 2 and a top loop or portion 6. The side limbs of the part 2 are formed of two lengths, producing a double loop, with a cross-bar 3 connecting the upper ends of the inner side lengths and forming a space 4 between the said bar 3 and the bent upper ends of the outer lengths. The
tabs 1 are inserted through the space 4 and around the bar 3 and then between the twolengths of the side limbs of the part 2, and thus clamped or held by the same, being thereby rigidly held in position. In Fig. 1 the outer lengths of the side limbs of the part 2 are bent and interlocked, forming a cross bar 5 between the loop 6 and the loop 2, the said loop Gbeing formed by the extension of said outer lengths. In Fig. 2 the said outer lengths of the sides of the part 2 are bent toward each other, then upward, and are shaped so as to form points or pins, the upper loop 6 having its lower ends pivotally at- 5 tached to the bent ends of the sides, and having its upper part adapted to contact with the said points or pins.
The straps of the suspenders may be readily secured to the upper loop 6, either by crossing the same around the sides thereof, as shown in Fig. 1, or by the points and loop, as shown in Fig. 2.
Should it be desired to form a single tab for the end of each Strap, it may be fastened in the walls of the space 4, passed around the cross-bar 3, and finally between the double sides of the loop, the upper end of the tab being thickened to prevent its slipping through the said space 4.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A suspender-trimrning consisting of an upper outer loop and a lower loop, said lower 65 loop having double and inclined sides and an inner cross-bar above said double sides, said parts being combined substantially as de scribed.
THOMAS W. FISH.
