of British Columbia and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improve ments in Buckles, of which the following is a'specification.
My invention is an improvement 1n buckles, and has tor-its objectto provide a buckle especially adapted for connecting the ends of a belt, wherein the buckle is formed of resilient material, shaped to form an open loop, one end of which is engaged by one end of the belt, the other end of the loop having means for clasping the other end of the belt. I

In the embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 4, the buckle is formed of resilient wire, bent upon itself to form a loop open at one end. The said loop comprises a body 1 to which one end 2 of the belt is permanently fixed, and arms 3 extend laterally from the body. Each of these arms at the end remote from the body is bent inwardly, as indicated at 4, to lie alongside the inwardly bent portion of the other arm and then outwardly, as indicated at 5, to form a substantially U-shaped member at the outer end of each arm. These U-shaped members interengage as shown, the portion st of one. arm lying beneath the portion 4: of the other, while the portion 5 of. the said arm overlies the portion 5 of the other arm. The extremity of each portion 5 is bent backwardly upon itself, as indicated at 6, to form a rounded blunt portion that will not injure the'wearer or the belt.

both arms, audit will be evident that when the said portions are moved away'trom each other, as shown in Fig. 4, the belt will be clasped between the bodies of the U-shaped portions to firmly hold the same.
In use, the end 7 of the belt is passed between the arms of the U-shaped portions, so that the edges of the belt are in engagement with the bodies of the U-shaped portions, the said portions, during the insertion of the belt end, being moved in a direction to cause the bodies of the U-shaped portions to move outwardly from each other by pressing inwardly upon the arms '3, that is, by pressing the said arms toward each other. It will be noticed that each arm 3 has an outwardly ofl'set portion 8 at the junction of the arm with the portion 4t, these ofiset portions 8 forming finger pieces for permitting the easy compression of the buckle to release or engage the belt end.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in Fig. 5 the buckle is a double buckle having a clasp for each end of the belt. In this construction the bodies 9 otthe buckle are twisted together, as shown, to form a single cross bar, and the arms 10 of the said bodies extend in opposite directions. Each arm is provided at the end remote from the body with a substantially U-shaped member 11, and the said members interengage as described tor the U-shaped members in Figs. 1 to 4. With this construction both ends of the belt may be clasped by the buckle, in the same manner as the one end is clasped in the construction ofFigs. 1 to l.
I claim: a
A buckle comprising a resilient substantially U-shaped member consisting of a body and armsextending laterally from the body, each arm having at the end remote from the body an open loop, each loop extending transversely of the plane of the buckle and opening outwardly, said loops having their corresponding side members crossed.
