SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 324,039. dated August 11, 1885.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM CLARK NEL- SON, of Santa Rosa, county of Sonoma, State of California, have invented an Improvement in Napkin-Holders; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

My invention relates to a novel device for holding the napkin around the neck of the user; and it consists of an elastic wire having its central portion bent backward and forward upon itself and formed into coils, while its ends are curved backward from these coils, so as to be easily placed around the neck of the wearer to hold it up, while the napkin is held by the elasticity of the coils which are at the front.

Referring to the accompanying drawing for a more complete explanation of my invention, the figure is a view of my device.

A A are the two end portions of an elastic wire or other material, which are curved, so that by separating them they may be passed partially-around the neck of the person, the ends being drawn together sufficiently by the elasticity of the material to keep the holder in place.

united at the bottom by the continuation ol the wire from one to the other of the coils, and the uniting portions between them form an elastic holder within which the napkin may be placed, and where it will be held firmly by their elasticity, thus keeping it in its place as long as may be desired, and thoroughly protecting the clothing of the wearer.

It will be manifest that the arrangement of the elastic coilsat B, or that portion which holds the napkin, may be somewhat Varied without materially altering the character of my invention, which consists of the curved arms and elastic holding portion at the front.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

An improved napkin-holder consisting of the curved arms or extensions A, the front portions of which cross each other and form an elastic holding device, and the coils B, the said coils being united at their bottoms by the continuation of the wire, substantially as herein described.
