UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. WVARREN, OF EVANSVILLE, INDIANA.
PROTECTOR FOR PlANO-FORTES.
SPECIFICATION" forming part of Letters Patent No. 416,879, dated December 10, 1889.
Application filed May 1,1889- Serial No. 309,206. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. WARREN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Evansville, in the county of Vanderburg and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Protectors for Piano- Fronts; and'I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. This invention relates to improvements in m protectors for piano-fronts, and has for its object to protect the front of a piano from abrasion while being moved or carried from one place to another, or while in use by a performer; and the nature of the invention consists in providing a suitable frame or backing of pasteboard, wood, metal, or leather with a lining of canton-flannel, chamois-skin, or other suitable material to prevent abrasion, the said frame having a suitable opening or slot for the passage of the pedals of the piano.
In the drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the frame. Fig. 2 is a section on the line a;
a: of Fig. 1.
The letter A indicates the frame.
B is the slot, and O the lining. The frame may be made so as to cover the whole or any part of the piano-front, particularly for upright pianos. D is a metal p1atesay about ten inches by ten inches-which may be of an ornamental pattern, and is intended to make a restingplace for the feet, and thereby form an additional protection to the carpet.
E is a platform attached to the protector in any convenient way by pivots or hinges, and is also intended to form an additional protection to the carpet.
The protector may be attached to the piano by clips under the edge of the front, or it may be kept in place by the foot.
Having described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent, and claim, is-
In a piano-protector, the combination of frame A and lining 0, having a slot B, with foot-rest D and platform E, as described, and for the purposes herein described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of twowitnesses.
GEORGE W. WARREN.
