UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL T. \VHITE, OF BROOKLYN, NEIV YORK.
STOP FOR PEDALS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 407,269, dated July 16, 1889.
Application filed March 22, 1889. Serial No. 304,312. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL T. WHITE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New Yorlc, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stops for Pedals, of which the following is a specification.
This-invention relates to a stop for pedals adapted for use on pianos, organs, and other musical instruments, and by means of this invention the pedal can be readily put into or out of action, as set forth in the following specification and claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a pedal, parts being in section along :0 .CU, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a section along y 3 Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a Fig. t is a view similar toFig. 2, with partsina different position than in Fig.2.
Siinilarletters indicate corresponding parts.
I11 the drawings, the letter A indicates a pedalsuch as a damper-pedal or swell-pedal. NV'hen the pedal A is depressed, the stop I3 swings by its Weight about the pivot or joint C, from the position shown in Fig. 4 to the position shown in Fig. 2, thus locking the pedal A in its depressed position.
To release the pedal A, the releasing-pedal D is depressed, thus swinging the bell-crank E F about the pivot or fulcrum G, so that the link H moves the stop B clear of the pedal A, Fig. 4. The spring I then moves the pedal A back to its starting-point. The releasingpedal D is restored to its starting-point by the spring K.
IVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination, with a pedal, of a stop
