Be it known that I, SAMUEL W. WILT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clifton Mills, in the county of Preston and State of \Vest Virginia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Burglar-Alarm Machines, of which the following is a specification.

My invention has relation to burglar-alarms of that class wherein are employed percussion-caps and adapted to be applied and operated by the turning of the knob of the door.

Among the objects in View are to provide asuitable gun-lock mechanism having a short barrel and terminating in a cap-receiving nipple, a dog mounted on the lock, mechanism for sustaining the dog when raised, releasing meehanism for the dog, and intermediate mechanism connecting the releasing mechanism with the door-knob, all as will hereinafter appear,whereby by rotation of the knob in either direction the releasing mechanism will be operated and the cap eX-' ploded.

IVith these general objects in view the invention consists in certain features of construction hereinafter specified, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of an ordinary lock and portion of the door provided with an alarm constructed in accordance with my invention.

Fig. 2' is a detail in rear elevation of the alarm mechanism.

Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in both the figures of the drawings.

1 represents a door, and 2 the door-jamb, the former provided with the ordinary lock 3 and the latter with the keeper 4:. Passing through the lock is the knob-shaft 5, terminating in knobs at both sides of the door, as is usual.

6 represents the alarm-lock plate, and the same is provided with securing-lugs 7at suit able points, through which are inserted screws 8, whereby the alarm-lock is secured to the door upon its inner face and immediately above the door-lock.

Passing throughthe lock-plate 6 is a shaft 9, squared on its outer end and provided with a screw 10, inserted in athreaded bore formed in the end of the shaft. Upon the squared end of the shaft 9 is mounted the usual dog or cook 11, the working end of which is designed to come in contact with a nipple 12, secured to the upper end of a short barrel 13, affixed to the face of the plate 6 by means of securing-lugs 14, through which are passed screws 15, said dog being maintained in position on the squared end of the shaft by the screw 10. Upon the shaft 9, and adapted to turn therewith, is rigidly mounted a tumbler 16, and at one side of the same, and serving as a bearing for the opposite end, is mounted a plate 17, secured to the plate 6 by means of screws 18. From the opposite side of the shaft 9 the tumbler is extended, as at 19, and pivoted thereat to the link 20, the lower end of which is connected with the usual V- shaped spring 21. A sear 22 is pivoted in the plate 17 at 23, and above the same is a small spring 24., the pivoted end of which is mounted 011 a lug 25.

26 represents a lever, which is in the nature of a trigger, and the same is pivoted, as at 27, and provided with a cam 28 at its upper end, bearing against the rear end of the pawl 22, by which means the lever is maintained under tension and in a depending position.

29 represents a U -shaped clip, which embraces the spindle 5 of the door-knob, and is maintained in position thereupon and adapted to rotate therewith by means of a thumb-screw 30, the free ends of the clip terminating against the inner edge of the lever 26.

The operation of my invention is as follows: The cook 11 is drawn back until the sear 22 takes under the tumbler, and a cap is placed on the nipple 12. By oscillating the knob-shaft 5 in either direction the lever 26 is swung away from the knob, and the cam 28 thereof serves to raise the rear end of the pawl 22, and thus releases the hammer from engagement, and the cap is thus exploded.

By providing the barrel 13 a much louder report is given than if simply the nipple is employed.

Having described my invention, what I claim is- 1. The combination, with a door-lock provided with a knob-shaft, of a gun-lock mounted above the door-lock and provided with a depending lever adapted to actuate the releasing pawl or sear of the gun-lock and to be operated by the knob-shaft, substantially as specified.

2. The combination, With a door-lock provided with a knob-shaft, of a gun-lock mounted above the door-lock and provided with a depending lever connected With the releasing-pawl of the gun-lock, and a clip elnbracing't-he knob-shaft and bearing on the lever and adapted to rock the same through the medium of the shaft, substantially as specified.

3. The combination, with a door-lock, of a gun-lock arranged above the same and having' a depending lever connected with its releasing-pawl and a U-shaped clip mounted on the knob-shaft of the door-lock for operating the lever and provided with a bindingscrew, substantially as specified.
