IMPROVEMENT IN ALARM-BELL ATTACHMENTS.

Specification forming part ,of Letters Patent No. 142,287, dated August 26, 1873 application filed March 31, 1873.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALLEN SHERWOOD, of Auburn, in the county of Cayuga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Alarm-Bell; and 1 do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to theaccompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in an alarm-bell attached to the knob or knob-stem pf a door, as will be hereinafter more fully set 'orth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, representing my alarm-bell attached to the door-knob; and Fig. 2 is a side view of the bell with a section of the device for attaching it to the knob'or knob-stem. Arepresents an ordinary bell attached to or suspended from a spring-wire, B, which is coiled, as shown in Fig. 1, and to the inner end of this wire is attached a clasp, O. This clasp has one end, a, turned up, with a hole in it, through which the wire B passes, and

the other end of the clasp is attached to or I held by the inner end of the wire.

The alarm-bell thus arranged is readily attached, by means of the clasp G, to a doorknob, D, when it will readily be seen, the door-knob cannot be turned ever so little without sounding the alarm.

Persons traveling can carry one of these bells in their valises and attach it at night to the knobs of their room-doors as a simple and effective burglar-alarm.

I do not confine myself to any particular construction of the clasp O, as any one will answer that will hold the alarm in place.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The clasp 0, having the bell A connected thereto by suitable means, and arranged to be attached by clamping pressure to the knob D,

sfibstantially as and for the purpose specified.

2. The clasp 0, spring B, and bell A, all constructed and arranged to be attached to a doorknob, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
