Description

J; H. P. INSLEE.
BURG-LAR ALARM.
Patented May 30,1876.
alarm, attached to door-knob byyoke.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH H. P. INSLEE, OF MOUNT VERNON, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUEGLAR-ALARMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 178,009., dated May` 30, 1876; application led .i i
May 20, 1876.
To all whom t may concern:
ter, Westchester' county, State of New York,
have invented a new and useful improvement in Portable Burglar-Alarms, which Improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my inventionl is a portable The same can be used for right or left hand doors, reversing the said yoke on knob.
Figure l represents the alarm ready for action; Fig. 2, transverse section; Fig. 3, section of lever; Fig. 4, shifting-post; Fig. 5, section of clamp.
A represents knob of door; B, shank of knob, to which is attached yoke D, held in4 position by conical-pointed set-screw E, to which is attached rod F, by means of plate u and pivots t. The rod F passes through the eye Z in shifting-post G, and is held in position by conical-pointed set-screw H, which enters grooves in said rod. The lever I is held in position by pin g, through slot j, the said lever bearing upon ways b, the shifting-post G being placed in concave center q, in vertical slot k. The knob A, being turned to right or left, raises or lowers lever I, which acts upon lever-pin g, displaces adjusting-point efrom pin o by means of spring h. Said spring h, being held in position by heads z', throws said lever back through concave slot d, which releases detent-Wire J, (said wire being held in notch f in lever I,) attached to pallet L, which gives the alarm in the usual manner. K is detent-wire, used in adjusting-lever I.
The said alarm is attached to door-stile (l by screws s, through slot 1' in clamp Y, and held in position by spurs a, by means of setscrew Z, in head of said clamp. The displacement of lever I releases the shifting-post G,` by means of which the knob A can be turnedto the right or left, the said post G working freely in vertical slot k.
m and o, in Fig. 4, are washers, which are used to overcome friction, thereby giving more freedom to the working of the post G. The dotted lines, marked .'10, represent the lever I displaced; X, stationary key for winding mainspring.
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination of lever I with rod F, when connected by set-screw H, in post G.
2. The combination of lever I with detentwire J, in notch f, substantially as described.
3. The combination of detent-wires J and K with the escapement, substantially as described.
4. The yoke D, adjustably attached to shank, in combination with rod F, pivoted to said yoke. y
5. The combination of lever I with rod F and shiftingpost G, the latter sliding in slot k, all as shown and described.
J. H. P. INSLEE.
