MOP-GRIP.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 406,410, dated July 2, 1889.

Be it known that I, JOHN HIRAM WARE, a citizen ot' the United States, residing at Eureka, in the county of Humboldt and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mop-Grips, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to improvements in mop-grips for the purpose of wringing Inops; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure l is a plan View of the device. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same attached to a bucket.

Referring to t-he drawings by letter, A designates a bucket to which the device B is attached. The said device consists of the body C, having the curved horn D, and the arm E, having between them a rectangular space F. The free ends of the horn D and arm E are curved away from each other, for the more easy introduction of the mop-rag between them.

G is a downwardly-standing shoulder or flange on the edge of t-he body, opposite the arm E, and II is an arm depending from the body outside of the shoulder.

I/Vhen the device is in place, the edge of the bucket will iit up between-the said shoulder or flange and arm, the arm being on the outside and the flange fitting against the inside of the bucket. When in this position, the device is fixed by a set-screw I, which passes through a tapped opening in the end of the arm II and impinges on the outside of the bucket.

J is an oscillating plate journaled at jj, at its ends, in the inner portion of the rectangular space F, its journals being much nearer its inner edge than its outer edge, which is roughened or provided with line blunt teeth, as shown. The said edge is Ilush with the shoulder d of the horn, so that the mop-rag will catch on nothing when entering. The mop-rag has its lower free end passed in between the horn D and arm E, the plate J catching on it by its rough edge, so as to prevent it turning with the handle when the latter is turned to twist the mop-rag. The rear position of its journals enables it to do this with suilicient force. Vhen the mop is sufciently wrung, it is lifted upward, lifting the front edge of the plate J and releasing the mop-rag therefrom. `The body of the device, of course, stands horizontally over the bucket.

Having described my invention, I claiml. A mop-grip arranged to be attached to a bucket, provided with a rectangular opening between two arms, and a plate pivoted in said opening in such manner that it will fall or bind against a mop-rag and prevent the latter from turning, substantially as specified.

2. A mop-grip arranged to be attached to a bucket, and comprising the body C, having the horn D and arm E, with their free ends curving away from each other, and having the rectangular space F and the oscillating plate J, provided with the outer roughened or toothed edge and j ournaled at j j in said space, substantially as specified.

3. In a mop-grip, the combination,with the body C, provided with the curved horn D, arm F, shoulder G, arm H, and set-screw I, and having the rectangular space or opening F, of the oscillating plate J, journaled at jj in said space, nearer its inner edge than its outer edge, and with its outer edge flush with the shoulder d of the horn, substantially as specified.
