MOP-WRINGER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN W. HENDERSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Muskegon Heights, in the county of Muskegon and State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Mop-Ringer, of
which the following, taken in (30111180131011.
with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, disclosing a preferred and practically operative embodiment of the invention, whereby others may fully understand the construction and operation of the same.
This invention relates to mop wringers of the type that are placed on the top of a pail of water which pail is adapted to receive the water wrung from the mop. In wringers of this type, it is desirable that they shall be readily and easily carried and quickly placed on and taken away from the pail, and at the same time that they shall not be liable to accidentally slip off or otherwise disengage from the pail when in operation.
It is, accordingly, a primary object of my invention to provide a wringer which may 1 be used with a pail or other receiving receptacle, which may be put on or taken away fromthe pail at will and which will not I disengage from the pail when in use, this being accomplished from the inherent construction of the wringer without requiring any mechanical devices of any character for fastening the wringer to the recelvmg receptacle.
Furthermore it is desirable that the wringer shall be manually operable to regulate the wringing pressure of the oper ative parts of the device, and to disengage such parts when placing the mop'm position to be wrung free of extra water, and my invention provides various manually operable devices for accomplishing such desired results. And these desired and improved constructions are made possible in a structure very simple in construction and operation, eificient and durable, and one of low 'cost of manufacture. These various desirable features and functions, together with others not specifically enumerated will be apparent as the description progresses of the device illustrated in the drawing as embodying my invention in which,

Specification of Letters Patent.

In the embodiment of my invention shown, there is provided a frame consisting of two side members 1 having angularly bent ends-2 which ends are positioned toward each other and connected by front and rear cross pieces 3 and 4:. The side members 1 are of special construction each comprising at the ends thereof horizontal sections 5 which are connected by the depressed tions 6, such depressed sections comprising a vertical portion 7 extending from the front .section 5 and an inclined portion 8 extending between the lower end of portion 7 and the front end of rear section 5. The portions 5, 7 and 8 are integral and at the junction of rear section 5 and part 8 a shoulder 9 is formed as shown, the purpose of which will later appear. A roller 10 is mounted between the side members 1 of the frame, the axis of the roller passing through the point of juncture of vertical parts 7 and the inclined parts 8 of the side members. 7
Pivotally mounted between the sides 1 of the frame is a second frame comprising the side bars 11:which are pivoted at 12 near the rear ends of the sides 1, roller 13 rotatably mounted between the front ends of the bars 11, and across member or platform 14 placed above the bars 11 and connected thereto immediately to the rear of the roller 13. The method of connection of this platform to the bars 11 may be varied but I have shown metallic members 15 having horizontal portions 16 adjacent to the under sides of the platform near the ends thereof and secured thereto by suitable fastening means 17, the vertical portions 18 passing alongside the bars 11 and terminating in seats 19 formed by turning the vertical portions back upon themselves for a short distance as shown in Fig. 2, the lower edges of the bars 11 seating in said seats. A knob 20 is attached to the upper side of the plat form and a lever 21 to the under side thereof at the rear, said lever extending backward over the rear cross piece 4 as shown.
The operation of my device will be readily apparent from the above description. In the operation of wringing the mop, the
wringer is placed on the top of a pail or other receiving receptacle, shown herein at 22, and the depressed portions 6 of the side members will be located within and below the top of the pail, the horizontal portions 5 resting on the top edges of the pail. The depressed portions 6 and the roller 10 will be positioned Wholly below the top edges of the pail, and any sliding movement of the wringer either to the rear or in a forward direction will be stopped by shoulders 9 and the vertical parts 7 as will be clearly evident by referenceto Fig. 1. The roller 13 may be elevated either by grasping the knob 20 with the hand or by pressing on the end of lever 21 which extending from the platform acts as a. leverto raise it, with its attached bars 11 and roller 13, and the mop may be placed between the rollers upon which the upper roller may then be lowered until it rests against the mop. The size or thickness of the mop is not material as the rollers may be spaced a greater or less distance apart owing to the pivotal mounting of the upper roller. After the mop has been placed between the rollers, it is drawn therebetween and pressure may be exerted to cause the upper roller to bear against the mop by placing the foot on the platform, this pressure being made as great as desired. The mop being drawn between the rollers will have the water wrung therefrom, it going into the receptacle, and as the roller 10 and the lower part of the roller 13 are positioned below theupper edges of the receptacle, any water wrung from the mop will go into the receptacle without danger of escapement from the pail or receptacle, and at the same time, the device is insured against disengagement from the pail without any fastening means being employed to secure the device thereto. After the mop has been wrung, the wringer may be takenfrom the pail and-placed out of the way until again needed. The lever 21 may be perforated as at 23 and the wringer hung on a suitable support when not in use.
It will be noted that I have provided the parts 8 of the side members of the frame with projecting guard members 24: adjacent the ends of the roller 10 and formed to lie in close proximity to the roller. The guards project from the inner sides of the parts 8 for a short distance and are of utility in preventing themop or any portion thereof getting between the, ends of the roller 10 and the side pieces in which it is mounted which would cause the clogging of the device when attempted to be operated as will readily be perceived. The provision of these guard members one at either end of the roller forms a simple and effective guard serving to effectually prevent such undesired action.
From the foregoing it will be clear that I have provided .a simple and inexpensive device which will, fullyperform tlreffoperafew parts none of which are expensive to make and is so-proportioned that it may be easily and readily manipulated. The movable roller is operable towardiand away from the fixed roller either by the hand as by engagement with knob 20, or it maybe elevated by the foot pressing against lever :21. There are no parts to get out of order,
nor any mechanism that is not capable of long and sustained use, thereby making the device one of exceptionable eflicienoy and durability.
I have fully described a complete and operative embodiment of my invention and one found very practical and'eiiicient in actual practice.
Various changes in minor details mayibe resorted to, however, without .depar'ting 'tions and functions desired. It consists of from the invention and I accordingly do; not 7 in the same plane, vertical sections provided in'the-side bars and formed'as continuations of thehorizontal sectionsthereof at one end of the bars, inclined sections extending from the other horizontal sections of said side bars and leading to thelower endsofthe vertical sections, a roller mounted between the lower endsof the vertical sections, bars pivotally mounted ,to'the side bars on the inner sides thereof and extending normally in the same plane with the end bars to aidjacent the said roller,a 'rollerimounted-between the ends of said bars'andjadaptedto engage against the first roller, "a platform:
mounted on said pivotally mounted barsiadjacent said roller, and a lever secured to the under side of theplatform and'extending over one of the end bars.

In a device of the character described, a relatively stationary frame comprised of side and end bars, the end bars and sections of the side bars at each end thereof 'and 'adjacent the end bars lying in the same -hori-' zontal plane, vertical sections izformedfin said side :bars as 'continuations of'the hori zontal sections of thesideb'arsat one end thereof, inclined sections connecting {the lower ends of the vertical sections 'and the' other horizontal sections of the said side bars, a shoulder-formed at the junction of 'eachinclined section with its'horizontal sec tion, a roller mounted between the lower ends of the vertical sections, barspivotally i mounted on the inner sides of the sidebars near one end thereof, a roller mounted between the ends of said bars and adapted to engage against the first mentioned roller, and means for manually operating said second roller and pivotally mounted bars to ward or away from the first roller.
3. In a device of the character described, a relatively stationary frame comprised of side and end members, depressed portions formed at intermediate points on said side members, a roller mounted at the lowest portions of said depressed portions, bars pivotally mounted on the inner sides of the said side members and normally lying in the same plane with the uppermost portions of the side members, a roller mounted between the ends of the bars and adapted to engage against the first roller, a platform secured to and between the said bars adjacent the roller and separate foot and hand operated devices secured to said platform for manually operating the said second roller and pivotally mounted bars away from the first roller.
