MOP-WRINGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 11, 1908.
Application filed April 30. 1907- serial No. 371.192.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. MCDONALD, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of the city of Port Madison, in the county of Kitsap and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Imrovements in Mop-Wringers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in devices of the above type and has for its primary object the provision of a comparatively simple construction which can be readily attached to a bucket and operated in an efficient manner with but little effort on the art of the operator.
ith the above and other desirable objects in view, to be referred to as the description progresses, the invention resides in the construction, arrangement and combinations of parts hereinafter described and suc cinctly defined in the appended claims.
Referring now to the accom anying drawing, in which like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views: Figure 1 is a view in top plan of my improved mop wringer. Fig. 2 1s a section taken on line 22 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a view in perspective of the resent invention shown in position on a buc et, the latter beshown by broken lines.
n carrying out my invention I provide a main frame 1 which is curved to conform to the interior curvature of a bucket and provided with suitable catches or clips 2 adapted to engage over the upper edge of the bucket (see Fig. 3) for securing the said frame in position, and one of these catches or clips is preferably provided with a set screw- 3, as c early shown.
The rear end portions of frame 1 are bent inwardly to form yielding or resilient supports 4 on which is pivoted for vertical swinging a frame 5, carrying a rotatably mounted roller 6. I
Reference numeral 7 indicate forward yielding or resilient supports secured to the main frame, said supports being formed integral with a roller frame 8, havin a roller 9 rotatably mounted therein. R01 ers 6 and. 9 act conjointly to wring the mop which in operation is passed therebetween and by reason of the supports 4 and 7 the rollers are held in yielding engagement with the mop so as to be ca able of being forced apart should any part 0 the mop which is of greater thickness than the remainder be encountered.
Frame 5 is provided with a pair of stops 10 which are adapted to engage in notches, provided in the upper edges of supports 7, for limiting downward movement of frame 5 and reventing any lateral movement thereof.
11 the present showing, frame 5 comprises opposite side bars connected by a cross bar 11 and to the outer or free portion of said frame'a handle 12 is pivoted. This handle is of suitable length to permit of the operator grasping the same and swinging the frame 5 and holding said frame down, while he draws the mop from between the rollers to effect wringing thereof, as is obvious.
In operation, the mop is placed on roller 9, when frame 5 is elevated as shown in Fig. 3, then said frame is lowered until roller 6 holds the said mop firmly against roller 9, when the mop can be drawn from between the rollers. This operation, can obviously be repeated a number of times, but as I have found in practice, with the exerting of but little pressure on frame 5 through the medium of handle 12, the mop will be sufficiently wrung after having passed once or twice between the rollers. m
The wringer is simple in construction and can be readily attached to and removed from a bucket, so that frequent changing of the water in the bucket can be easily effected when the wringer is removed from the bucket.
- Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States of Amer- 1ca, is:
1. A mop wringer comprising a frame having free end portions bent inwardly to form yielding supports, a roller frame pivoted to said inturned end portions of the first named. frame, a second roller frame, means to yieldingly support said last named roller frame on said first named frame, and stops on said first named roller frame arranged to engage said means when said roller is in its lowered position.
2. A mop wringer comprising a substantially U-shaped main frame, a roller frame having yielding end portions and being yieldingly connected thereby to the main frame within the latter, a swinging roller frame pivoted to the end portions of the main frame, and rollers journaled in said roller frames.
3. A mop wringer comprising a main frame conforming to the contour of the interior of the bucket and having yielding free end portions, a roller j ournaled in aframe connected to the main frame, and a roller frame provided with a roller and being pivoted to said yielding free end portions for swinging move ment toward and away from said first mentioned roller.
4. A mop wringer comprising a main frame having yielding free end portions, a substantially U-shaped frame provided with a roller and having out-turned yielding ends and be ing yieldingly secured by said ends to said main frame within the latter, a swinging frame pivoted to said free end portions of the main frame, and rollers journaled in said U- 15 shaped and said swinging frames.
Signed at Seattle, Washington this 18th day of April 1907.
