VIOP-WRINGER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 533,122, dated January 29, 1 895. Application filed December 19, 1893. Serial No. 494,085. (No model.)

Be it known that I, HENRY J. GEBHARDT, of Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented a certain new and Improved Mop-Wringing Attachment for Tubs or Buckets, of which the following is a specification. v

My invention relates to mop wringers, and

. the object thereof is to provide a simple and cheap attachment which may be readily placed upon any tub or pail and by means of which the mop cloth may be both washed'and wrung as dry as required.

My invention consists in general in the con# structions and combinations hereinfter described and particularly pointed out in the claims, and will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in whichv Figure 1 is a perspective view showinga pail equipped with a mop wringer ready for use. Fig. 2 is a similar perspective View the pail being turned one quarter around. `Fig. 3 is an enlarged plan View of the bucket and Wringer, and Fig. 4 is a detail showing the foot piece.

As shown in the drawings, 2 represents a rectangular frameof less wid th than the width of a pail of ordinary size. This frame, on the inner side, is provided with the gap 3, while on the outer side or end it has the two lugs or arms 4 and 5, each of which is provided with a claw or two depending lugs 6, which extend down over the edge of the pail at distant points thereon. The grooves between the lugs or lips 6 are considerably wider than the ordinary thickness of the pail or tub so that the frame may be secured upon various sizes of pails and tubs. The cast arm 7 extends from the outer side of the frame and is provided with a hole to receive the threaded upper end of the fastening rod 8, which end is secured adjustably by the thumb-nut 9. The rod is ofa convenient length to it most sizes of pails and its lower end is secured rigidly in the foot-plate 10, the inner end of which footplate is provided with a groove or slot 11 to receive the lower edge of the pail, and thus prevent the same from slipping off the footplate.

12 and 13, the shaft of the former being secured in one side of the frame while the shaft 1d of the roll 13 passes through the slots 15 provided in the opposite part of the frame. The roll 13 is normally held against the other roll by the coiled or bow springs 1 6, the ends of 'which are secured upon the ends of the shaft 14C and the outer part of the frame. The perforated lugs 17 are preferably provided for this purpose. The slots l5 are preferably so arranged in the opposite sides of the frame that the

12 and 13 will stand some distance apart so that the frame or clamp of the mop may t be readily inserted between them, after which the cloth may be drawn up between the rolls. This is possible where the mop has a thin cast or wire frame, but in other cases it is necessary to open the rolls and for this purpose I provide the yoke 18, the arms of which pass through the perforated lugs 19 on the opposite sides of the frame and have their ends secured upon the shaft 14.

A cam or lever is provided upon the crossbar of the yoke of the machine and is adapted to operate against the sides 2l of the frame. When the cam is thrown the yoke will be drawn out against the tension of the springs to separate the rolls and permit the insertion of the wet cloth.

As shown, the wringer attachment is small and does not entirely lill up the top ofthe bucket so that free access may be had to the water therein to cleanse the mop.

In use the pail is prevented from overturning by placing one foot on the foot-piece 10 and one hand is employed in grasping the mop while the other may be used to operate the cam and separate the rolls when necessary.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, with the frame having one open side, with the rolls arranged in said frame and having their ends extendingopposite the opening in said side, one of said rolls being movable awayfrom the other, springs for normally pressing` the same together, a yoke embracing one part of said frame and having its ends secured upon the movable roll, a cani for operating said yoke to spread said rolls, and means for securing said frame upon a tub or bucket, substantially as described.

2. The combination, in a mop Wringer, of the rectangular frame 2 provided with the l `grap 3 in its inner side, and upon the opposite side having arms 4t and 5 provided with claws or lugs to embrace the upper edge of a pail or tub, a middle arm 7 extending from said frame, the foot-piece 10 to enga-ge the bottom edge of the pail or tub, a clamping lug 8 eX- tending from said piece or plate 10 and secured in said arm 7, and rolls l2 and 13 pro` vided in said frame, substantially as described.

3. The combination, in a mop Wringer, of the rectangular frame 2 provided with the gap 3 in its inner side, and upon tne opposite side having arms 4 and 5 provided with claws or lugs to embrace the upper edge of a pail or tub, a middle arm^7 extending from said frame, 'the foot-piece 10 to engage the bottom edge of the pail or tub, a clamping lug 8 extending from said piece or plate 10 and secured in said arm 7, rolls '12 and 13 provided in said frame, the slots provided in the frame for the shaft of the roll 13, and the springs secured to the frame and to the ends of said shaft whereby said roll is pressed against or toward the other roll, substantially as described.
