iwmw V V we be UNTE FRANK B. WILDE, 013 BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS;
MOP-WRINGER.
Application filed May 31, 1912.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK B. VILDE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of mop wringers characterized by a receptacle and a pair of rollers which are adapted to be brought together to squeeze the mop and wring out. the same when it is drawn from between the rollers.
It is the object of the present invention to provide novel and improved means for actuating the rollers, whereby the operation of wringing the mop is easily and expeditiously effected, and with this object in view, the invention consists in a combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
in order that the invention may be better understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the wringer, and Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof partly broken away.
Referring specifically to the drawing, 5 denotes a suitable receptacle, preferably rectangular in form, and provided with a bail 6 so that it may be conveniently carried. The top of the receptacle has a rolled edge which is reinforced by a wire 7.
At 8 indicated a pair of wringer rollers, each of which is loosely journaled on a shaft 9 carrying at each end a peripherally grooved roller 10. These grooved rollers are loose on the shaft and are arranged to travel on parallel tracks formed by the top edge of the two opposite side walls of the receptacle the rollers 8 extending transversely thereof. To the opposite side walls of the receptacle are pivoted at 11, levers 12 which are connected at their free ends by a yoke 13 extending from the front of the receptacle above foot piece 1st secured to and projecting forward from the bottom thereof. To each lever 12 is pivotally connected, intermediate its ends, at 15, a pair of links 16 the pivot being common to both links. The ends of the shafts 9 are journaled in the outer ends of the links, the shafts being held in place by nuts 17 screwed on the ends thereof against the links. To the receptacle Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 17, 1913 Serial No. 700,746.
are anchored coiled springs 18 which are connected to the levers 12, the function of said springs being to swing the levers upward.
In operation, the rollers 8 are normally spread apart, and upon swinging the levers 12 downward, the links 16 draw the rollers together. Upon placing the mop between the rollers and pressing down with one foot on the yoke 13, the rollers can be tightly pressed together to squeeze the mop, and upon pulling the latter away from between the rollers it is wrung out. The yoke 13 being now released, the springs 18 swing the levers upward, whereby, through the links, the rollers are caused to spread and return to their normal position. The links Operate similar to a toggle and but little effort is required to tightly squeeze the rollers together. The grooved rollers 10 traveling on the track formed by the top edge of the side walls of the receptacle guide the wringer rollers in their travel toward and from one another. On the inside of the side walls of the receptacle, near the top thereof, are guard strips 19 for the mop.
The device herein described is simple in construction and it can therefore be cheaply manufactured. It is also easily operated, and it effectually serves the purpose for which it is designed.
I claim:
In combination with a receptacle having parallel top edges, levers fulcrumed to the sides of the receptacle, links pivoted to the. levers and arranged in pairs disposed approximately in opposite directions, a shaft carried by each pair of links and disposed transversely across the parallel edges of the receptacle, rollers journaled upon the shafts and arranged to travel along the parallel edges of the receptacle whereby the shaft is supported at. its ends upon the edges of the receptacle, and wringer rollers journaled upon the shafts between the first mentioned rollers, and arranged to rotate independent of the first mentioned rollers.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK B. VVILDE.
