PATENT OEEICE.
MOP-WR-INGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. '7 31,098, dated June 16, 1 903.
Application ned :rune 27, 1902.
To all whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, EPHEAIEM CHAQUETTE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Rochelle, county of Westchester, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop-Wringers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a new form of mopping apparatuswhich shall not only be strong and of simple construction, but which entirely does away with the necessity both of hand-wringing and stooping, inasmuch as the wringing part of the mechanism is operated by the foot. In this apparatus it is preferable to use a mop specially prepared for the wringer or a wringer specially adapted to the mop; but the wringing part of my improved apparatus can be used, though less effectively, with various forms of mops.
One form of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a side elevation showing the wet mop being squeezed bythe wringer. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the wringing apparatus, showing the open position in full lines and the closed position in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a section through line 1'1 of Fig. 1.
Same letters'indicate similar parts in the diereut drawings.
A is a base-board, on which the apparatus is mounted, and provided at its forward end with rollers ct.
B is a removable tub adapted to set on the base-board.
C C are two upright-frames fastened to the base-board -and supporting the trough-like wringingdevice D, which consists of the two squeezing halves E E', loosely mounted upon seal No. 113,392. (No man.)
the inclined shaft b, which is journaled in the upright frames C C. This wringing device D is perforated, as shown at c c, so that the water from the mop may run off readily into the tub B.
1 F is the'mop.
The wringing device is shown open in full lines in Fig. 2 and closed in the dotted lines. The opening and closing are produced as follows: G is a treadle pivoted at d to the frame C and adapted to move up and down in the slotted extension c. To this treadle is pivoted the lazy-tongs H, one arm of which is secured to the squeezing portion E and the other half to the portion E. Thus the depression of the treadle expands the lazy-tongs and closes the wringing device D by bringing the two portions Ev E' together. When -the downward pressure on the treadle G is removed, the wringing device is opened by the spring J, one end-of which is hung upon Vthe shaft b and the other upon the pin f, which projects from the treadle G. To prevent the possibility ofthe mop getting caught between the squeezing portions E E and thevshaft b, the bottom of one portion laps under the other, soas never to leave an opening at the bottom of the trough.
I claim- A mop-wringing apparatus composed of a divided trough mounted upon an inclined shaft, a treadle and means connecting said treadle with said trough, whereby the same may be opened or closed as desired.
EPHRAIEM CHAQUETTE.
