Patented Apr. 9, 1929.
UNITED STATES MAX PELZ, OF KIRSCI'IAU, GERMANY.
BUCKET WITH SQUEEZING- DEVICE.
Application filed September 28, 1926, Serial No. 138,202, and in Germany June 18, 1926.
This invention relates to bucket-s equipped with squeezing devices for squeezing water out of floor-wipers, cloths, mops, brooms etc. Buckets with squeezing members in the form of rolls are known. A disadvantage of such squeezing or wringing members that they distort the objectto be wrung or freed from water and thus subject it to conside wear and tear. This objection is overcome by the present invention by making the squeezing device in the form of two curved bodies which are arranged so that the convex surface of the one body rolls along the convex surface of the other, the passive body being mounted within the bucket, barrel or the like.
The invention can be ai'iplied in the various ways and is exemplincd in the drawing in which it is shown in combination with a bucketsuch as is used in cleaning floors or the like. In this application the squeezing device may be employed for squeezing the water out of a floor-cloth or a mop or broom consisting of textile fibres. The illustrat on Fig. 1 is a side View and Fig. 2 a perspective view, Fig. 1 showing the active, convex-surfaced, squeezing body in its initial position in solid lines, and in broken lines in an intermediate position and its final position whenit is operated to squeeze the mop or broom.
The bucket 0; is four-cornered and provided with two footholds b on which the user of the device places his feet for the purpose of holding the bucket. The bucket may also be round and without tootholds, but in four-cornered buckets the mounting of the parts is simpler. The squeezing device comprises a passive pressure member 0 with an arcuate surface which is fixed 1n the bucket with its convex surface turned towards the int rior of the bucket. The lateral members (Z act as guide members. The active or movable pressure member 6 also has an arcuate surface. Both the passive and active members a and 6 may be made of wood or preferably sheet-zinc. They may be covered with rubber.
Pivoted at the eyes f is a linkage or rocker frame 9 that carries a shaft in at its free end on which is fixed a handle Extending from the handle 2' are arms is to vhich the active pressure or squeezing member 6 1s fixed.
In using the device the saturated ObJBClZ, as a mop, is placed on the arcuate surface 0 so that the wooden handle of the mop rests against the top edge of the curved surface 0 as shown. Then the rocker frame 5 is operated by the right hand, the left hand edge of the active pressure member 0 being placed at the upper edge of the curved surface 0 and the rocker frame 5 being swung downward to cause the convex surface of c to roll upon and thus squeeze the mop lying on the convex surface of the passive pressure member 0. It is to be noted that with this device the squeezing action on the mop commences quite at the top or quite near to the handle, which is not possible when the rolls are employed, as their squeezing effect can only commence at some appreciable distance from the handle of the broom 0r mop. If one operation of the squeezing member is not sufiicient, the operation may be repeated. To prevent lifting of the bucket, the user places his feet on the footholds 7). During the squeezing operation the broom remains unmoved and all distortion of the same is thus obviated, and wear and tear is thus reduced. The device may, of course, also be used for wringing floor-cloths or clothes.
he rocker frame 9 and the arms 70 must be dimensioned so that the pressure exerted during the entire rolling travel of the pressure members on each other remains con stant. A certain clearance between the curved surfaces of the pressure members may be provided for taking the objects to be pressed.
I claim 1. In a combined Jail and wring-er, a pail. a mop squeezing device mounted on the pail comprising a stationary member having an arcuate face, and a movable member also mounted on the pail and having an arcuate face adapted to engage the arcuate face of the iirst member in a rolling contact therewith.
2. In a combined pail and wringer, a pail, a mop squeezing device mounted on the pail comprising a stationary member having an arcuate face, a movable member having an arcuate face adapted to engage the arcuate face of the first member in rolling contact therewith, a link, and pivots connecting said link to said stationary member and movable member.
In testimony whereof I have affixed by signature.
MAX PELZ.
