JOSEPH Bi MISKEWICZ, OF PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
WRINGER.
Application filed July 27,
This invention relates to wringers especially adapted for wringing mops, an ob ect being to provide a wringer for this purpose which may be supported independent of a pail or container, so that the combined weight of both the pail and wringer need not be lifted wvhen the pail and wringer are moved.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a wringer which includes a novel arrangement of wringer rollers, the arrangement being such that a mop or other article will be pressed between three contacting surfaces instead of two, as in the ordinary wringer roller arrangement.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a wringer frame construction which includes novel means for mounting and guid-' ing the wringer rollers, together with means for operating the same.
lVith the above and other objects in View, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction,
to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
in the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention, a pail and mop being shown by dotted lines.
Figure 2 is a top plan View.
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the invention as shown comprises a frame which includes legs or standards 10, the lowerends of which are extended to provide feet 11 and 12. The feet 12 are of greater length than the feet 11, so that the foot of the operator may be placed thereon to hold the wringer against movement when in use. r
The legs or standards 10 extend inward and upward and terminate in upright portions 13 and 14, and secured to these upright portions is a pair of reversely arranged vertically spaced horizontally inclined substantially U-shaped members 15, and 16;
of the members 15 and 16 provide 1927. Serial No. 208,843.
guides for the trunnions 17 of a roller 18,
and these bars are horizontally inclined as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings. Mounted in suitable bearings provided at the upper ends of the guide bars is a pair of vertically spaced rollers 19. The rollers 19 are so arranged that when the roller 18 is moved upward, it will simultaneously engage both rollers 19 so that the mop or other article drawn between the rollers will be engaged at three points, instead of two, so that practically a double wringing action will occur.
Pivotally mounted upon a horizontally disposed brace 20 which connects the legs 10, is a yoke 21. This yoke carries a foot pedal 22 and its outer end is yieldingly held in raised position by a spring 23. One end of this spring is connected to the yoke as shown at 24 while the opposite end is connected to an arm 25 which is secured to the U-shaped member 15. Extending from the inner end of the yoke upon opposite sides of the frame are rigid arms 26 whose upper ends are slotted as at 27 to receive the trunnions 17 of the roller 18, so that when the foot pedal 22 is pressed downward, the roller 18 will be moved upward between the guide bars so as to engage the rollers 19. The roller 18 is returned to its normal position by the spring 23. A brace bar 28 connects the upper ends of the rigid arms 26.
A bail 29 has its opposite ends secured to the upper U-shaped member 15 and this bail is provided with a handle 30, whereby the wringer may be conveniently carried.
As shown by dotted lines in the drawings, a pail or other container P may be positioned within the frame, while a mop M is shown in position to be acted upon by the rollers.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is:-
In a wringer, a frame comprising legs, inwardly oflset vertically disposed extensions at the top of said legs, means including spaced parallel inclined said extensions at opposite sides of the frame and defining guide bars, Vertically spaced rollers mounted at one end of the guide bars, a roller having its trunnions mounted between the guide bars and movable to engage both of the first mentioned rollers, a pivotally mounted foot operated yoke, means to yieldingly hold the yoke elevated, and arms extending from the yoke and engaging the trunnions of the movable roller to cause the 19 letter to move in a direction toward the spaced rollers when the yoke is depressed.
, In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
