UNITED STATESl PATENT OEEICE.
ALBERT J. KLETZKER, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
HOLDER FOR BLANKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 404,287, dated May 28, 1889.
Application led June 17, 1887. Serial No. 241,656. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT J. KLETZKER, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Holders for Blanks, 85e., of which the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which- Figure I is a perspective view with the spring-clips shown by dotted lines in their disengaged position. Fig. II is a perspective View with the top cover thrown back. Fig. III is a perspective view with the holder fully open. Fig. IV is a perspective View of one of the spring-clips. Fig. V is a detail view showing the clips disengaged. Fig. VI is a perspective view showing a modification.
The holder has a bottom cover, l, which in the form illustrated in all the figures except Fig. VI, has the whole area of the book, and is made without any hinge except the hinge v2, connecting it to the hinge-strip 3. The upper cover, 4, is connected to the hinge-strip 3 by a hinge, 5. These hinges may be made of the same material which is used to cover the millboard or other material giving stiffness to the covers l and 4 and the strip 3; but the hinge may be made stronger by re-enforcing material.
The clips G may very properly be made of sheet metal having a proper amount of elasticity for the purpose. The clips are made of two parallel parts connected by a return-bend. The lower one of these parts is longer than the other, and has a pivot-hole, 7, to receive a rivet, 8, by which it is connected to the under side of the under cover, l. The form and position of the clips are such that they snugly lap around the corners of the holder when in the position shown in Figs. I and II, and lie hat beneath the cover l and over the strip 3, serving to hold them firmly together upon the blanks or other papers, 9,whose edges are inserted between them. When the clips are turned in the position shown in Fig. V and in dotted lines in Fig. I, the upper cover, 4, and strip 3 may be opened and a fresh paper inserted. Vhen it is desired to turn over the leaves for examination oi' them, the upper cover may be thrown back without moving the clips from the position shown in Fig. I. (See Fig. II.)
In the modification shown in Fig. VI the hinge 2 isdispensed with, and the clips form the only connection between the upper and lower covers. In this case there may be a hinge in the under cover, as seen at l5.
Any of the blanks 9 may be pulled outfrom between the lower cover and the strip 3 without drawing out the other blanks.
The clips may be pivoted to the hinge-'strips 3 in place of the lower board.
The holes 7 and rivets S, by which the clips are connected to the board l or to a strip hinged thereto, may be dispensed with, the clips being removable.
I claim as my inventionl. The combination of the unjointed or integral bottom board, l, the board 4 and strip 3, hinged together, and the U-shaped springclips having legs of different lengths and each having its longer leg pivoted to said board l nearer to the end than to the sides of said board and adapted to revolve in a plane therewith and embrace strip 3 with its short leg, as set forth.
. 2. In a holder for blanks, the combination, with the boards 1 4,between which the blanks rest, and the strip 3, hinged t0 the board 4 for resting upon the ends of the blanks, of the U-shaped spring-clips G, having one leg pivoted to the bottom and near the corners of the board I, and adapted to rotate around said corners in a plane with the board 1, whereby said clip is adapted to embrace strip 3 and board l between its legs, as set forth.
3. In a holder for blanks, the combination, with the boards l 4, between which the blanks rest, andthe strip 3, hinged to the board 4, of the U-shaped spring-clips 6, each having one leg longer than the other, and said longer legs being pivoted to the under side of the board I at a distance from the end of said board less than the length of the short leg of said clip, whereby the latter is adapted to rotate in a plane with said board 1 and to clasp or unclasp the board l and strip between its legs, as set forth.
ALBERT J KLETZKER.
