COLLAPSIBLE DAILY-MEMORANDUM CALENDAR.
Application filed January 12, 1921 Serial No. 436,770.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, PAUL IH. VVELOKER, a citizen of the United States residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Collapsible Daily- Memorandum Calendars, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to collapsible daily memorandum calendars designed primarily to provide a supporting base of a suitable construction to display a calendar pad in a tilted relation so that the calendar may be easily readat a glance, the design being particularly adapted for a daily calendar sheet. In calendars of this nature it is very desirable that they be so constructed as to be collapsed into a compact state for shipping individually or collectively. For instance, if a calendar of this nature is used for advertising purposes the purchaser wishing to send these calendars individually to his customers prefers to have them so that they will fold into a small packagev adapted to be mailed in a suitable container.
The invention provides a display sheet rest for a member which extends in an angle from the supporting base to display the daily sheets and monthly calendar in an inclined position. The display sheet rest projects upward from the base and is adjustable over on to the pad when not desired for use, so as to be folded in a comparatively compact state.
The daily pad forms a calendar for the days of the year displayed on one side associated with monthly calendars, while the other side of the sheets of the pad form a convenient memorandum sheet, which can be used in conjunction with the calendar, as may be desired.
The invention includes supporting loops which are adapted to hold the ieaves of the pad collectively and free to be moved from the pad proper into position to be supported by the sheet rest so as to display and form a calendar.
In the drawings forming a part of the specification Figure 1 is a perspective view of the collapsible daily memorandum calendar, folded together into a compact state.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the memorandum calendar as it appears in use.
Figure 3 is a central cross section of the The leaves 12 of the. pad C are loosely held by thesupporting loops 13 which are formed of wire or other resilient material and are provided with engaging ends 14 and 15. The ends 15 are joined togel her by the portion 16, allowing the loops to be formed from a single piece of material and spaced apart, and the engaging ends 1 1 an are formed with recesses which are adapted to engage in the edges of the opening 17 7 formed in the loop supporting plate 18 under spring tension. WVhen the pad C is attached to the loop 13 the ends 14 and 15 are inserted in the opening 17 and sprung into place so as to form a rigid stationary support for the pad with its leaves free to be moved on the supporting loops.
The plate 18 is secured in any suitable manner to the base 13 while a recess 19 is formed beneath the plate 18 for receiving the engaging ends 1 1 and, 15, and also the inwardly extending portion ofthe plate 18 which is formed about the opening 17.
A display sheet rest or support D is s'up ported freely movable on the loop 1-3 so that it can be laid flat against the upper surface of the pad C as illustrated in Figure 1 or moved into the position illustrated in Figure 3 to form an inclined sheet rest for readily displaying the sheets of the daily calendar. The display sheet rest or member- I) is formed with a tongue 20 which extends between the loops of the engaging ends 15 of the loop 13 to engage in the opening 17 to hold the sheet rest or member D in the position illustrated in Figure 3.
The tongue 20 extends at an angle from the body portion 21 of the sheet rest D so that the corner 22 rests against the upper surface of the plate 18 when the sheet rest is in position to display the sheets of the calendar to indicate the days of the year. In folded or collapsed position of the memorandum calendar all of the sheets of the pad C rest in a position on top of the base B as illustrated in Figure 1, while the sheet rest or support is slid over the top of the loops 18 so as to lie flat on top of the pad C. The sheet rest is secured to the loops 13 which pass through holes in the tongue of the same so as to prevent it from becoming disengaged from the loops and to allow it to be freely moved over the loops into folded position. Vhen folded this way the memorandum calendar A can be packed in a much smaller package than if the sheet rest were formed rigid and lIIlIl'lOVflblG in relation to the supporting base B. This construction also simplifies the manufacture of the memorandum calendar. hen the memorandum calendar A is set up ready for use the sheet rest is sufiiciently rigid so as to support the sheets as they are turned over from the pad C on the loops 13 without any danger under ordinary use of the sheet rest becoming misplaced and readily displaying the daily and monthly calendars in an inclined position which is readily visible to the user.
1. claim:
1. A calendar, comprising a base portion. pad supporting loops held under spring tension to said base portion, a sheet rest slidably held to said loops and a tongue projecting from one end of said rest adapted to support said rest in an inclined position, by engaging with said base.
2. A calendar comprising a base member, a pad comprising a series of loosely disposed sheets, a sheet rest, pad holding loops secured to said base and a tongue formed on said sheet rest adapted to engage said base member between said loops in a manner to hold said sheet rest in an inclined position in relation to said base to form a supporting means to display the sheets of said pad, said sheet rest being movable on said loops.
3. In an article of manufacture, the combination of a supporting and display base for a pad of freely disposed sheets, a pair of pad supporting wire loops formed from a single piece of wire detachably secured to said base, a movable sheet rest slidably secured to said loops and a tongue formed on said sheet reit projecting from one edge thereof and adapted to project between said loops to engage in said base at a point beneath the upper end of said pad to hold said sheet rest in position to form a support for sheet,". of said pad when the same are removed from the main pad and turned over to dis play the under side of the sheets.
4-. An article of the class described, including a pad oft loosely disposed sheets, means for holding said sheets collectively or selectively movable on said holding means, a sheet rest slidably engaging said holding means and means extending from the edge adjacent the connection of said rest with said holding means adapted to support said rest in an inclined position to display the sheets of said pad.
5. A calendar memorandum pad, comprising means for supporting leaves of the pad freely disposed so that one side can be used for memorandum, a leaf support movably secured to said leaf supporting means, a projection formed from one edge of said leaf support, a base for supporting said leaf supporting means and an opening formed in said base adapted to engage said projection to hold said leaf support in an inclined plane.
6. A calendar, comprising a base portion, pad supporting Wire loops secured to said base portion, a sheet rest slidably connected to said loops and a tongue projecting from the edge of said rest and adapted to extend between said loops and beneath a portion of said base to support said rest in an inclined position for the purposes specified.
