Description

T. H. BANKS vREGORD FOLDER Jan. 14, 1930.
Filed Deo. 24, 1928 IN VEN TOR.
A TTORNEX Patented Jan. 14, 1930 UNETED STATESV THOMAS E. BANKS, OF QUEBEC, QUEBEC, CANADA RECORD FOLDER Application led December 24, 1928. Serial No. 328,169.
This invention relates to a record folder which embodies a folded cover, one leaf of said cover being provided with an expansion pocket.
The principal object of my invention 1s to provide a record folder comprising substantially a U-shaped cover formed of a back and front leaf with a central portion to which they are hinged and one of the leaves provided on its inner face with an expansion pocket.
With the foregoing and other objects 1n view, as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangements of co-operating elements as hereinafter more specifically set forth, claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings forming a part of the present application, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the preferred embodiment of my invention, showing the pocket being in extended position.
Fig. 2 is a plan View of the material showing the layout of the pocket before being folded and connected to the inner face of the cover.
Fig. 8 is a detail view which illustrates the manner in which the pocket is folded and attached to the cover.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the different views. 4 designates the folder as an entirety comprising front leaf 5, back leaf 6 and central portion 7 all of which are preferably integral. At the junction of the front leaf 5 and the central portion 7 the material is scored as at 8 and at the junction of the back leaf 6 and the central portion 7, the material is scored as at 9, so that the front leaf 5 and the back leaf 6 may be folded in hinged relationship to the central portion 7 which will normally retain the edges of the front portion and the back portion a pre-determined distance apart.
10 is an expansion pocket formed from a blank 11 as shown in Fig. 2. The pocket 10 is formed, with one side wall being composed of t-he leaf 5, while the other side wall of the pocket comprises the central body portion 12 of the blank 11. The extended bottom of this blank is scored as at 14, 15, 16 and 17, while the extendedends are scored as at 18, 19, 2O and 21. It is my desire to provide the cent-ral body portion 12 of the expansion pocket 10 with a reinforced edge along the bottom and at each end. This is accomplished by folding the bottom and the ends inwardly along the scoring 14 and 18 respectively and the portions 22 and 23 respectively are adhesively attached to the adjacent edges of the inner face around the central body portion 12. The portions 24 and 25 of the bottom and 26 and 27 of the respective ends are folded along the scoring 15-16-17 and 19--20-21 respectively to provide an accordion style fold. The portion 28 of the bottom and 29 of the respective ends are adhesively attached to the inner face of one of the leaves preferably the front leaf 5 as shown in Fig. 1, which adhesive connections will hold the expansion pocket secure to the inner face of the leaf. It will be noted that the lower edges of the ends are free from contact with the bottom when in folded position. It will be noted in the drawing, Fig. 1, that the pocket 10 is raised slightly above the scoring 8 when in its attached position to' the leaf 5.
The pocket 10 provides a convenient holder for many small forms of various sizes such as purchase orders, post office change notifications, invoices, credit and receiving orders, while the general correspondence may be suitably retained in connection with the back leaf 6 by means of a clip fastener or if desired the clip fastener may be eliminated.
The foregoing specification and annexed drawings, disclose the preferred embodiment of my invention, but it is to be understood that minor changes may be resorted to in the commercial adaptation of my invention without departing from the scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
What I claim asnew is: A record folder comprising a front leaf, back leaf and an intermediate central portion, the material being scored respectively at the junction of said leaves and said central portion; an expansion pocket carried on the inner face of one of said leaves, which pocket yis formed from a separate blank, the body portion of which forms the outer Wall of said pocket; the ends and bottom of said blank be- 5 ing Vfolded back and adhesively attached to Y the adjacent edges of the inner face of said body portion to reinforce the marginal `edges thereof; the outer portions of said ends and said bottom being adhesively attached to the 10. inner face of said coacting leaf and the iny termediate portions ofsaid ends and said bottom being scored to permit accordion folding thereof and to permit said body portion to be moved outwardly in Various spaced relaiorfis-hip from the inner face of said coacting In testimony whereof, I affix my signature. THOMAS HERBERT BANKS.
