SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 393,432, dated November 27, 1888. Application filed June 2, 1888. Serial No. 275,808. (ModcL) To all whom. it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANKLIN HEBBARI), a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a Book for Holding Playing-Cards, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to improve a book-cover so that it will hold playing-cards and the like.

The invention consists in a book-cover having a rigid block in its back, which block is grooved longitudinally, in combination with blades that are set separately into said grooves and that extend from the back into the space between the covers, as hereinafter more fully set forth.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is aside view of my improved book for holding cards,closcd. Fig. 2 is a side view of the book, one cover being thrown back, showing a pack of cards in position. Fig. 3 is a cross section on the line 0 c, Fig. l, the -covcrs being closed. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the card retainer; and Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail cross sectional view on the plane of the line 0 c, Fig. 2.

In the accompanying drawings, A B B rep I) are blades that are set separately into the grooves a in the block a, which blades extend from the back of the book into the space between the covers B B.

The pack of cards D to be held is placed between the covers B B, so that one edge of the pack will be held by the blades Z2 Z2, as in Fig. 3. A marker, h, may be passed between the cards to spread them and thus wedge the pack between the blades 7) b.

The edges of the covers B B may be bound by metal strips f, and a clasp, g, be used to hold the covers closed, if desired.

The blades 1) by being flat do not injure or mark the cards when the covers B B are closed.

By using my improved book-cover for cards the edges of the cards will be protected and the cards kept from being soiled.

Having now described my invention, what I claim is The book-cover A B B, having the rigid block a in the back, which block has two lon gitudinal grooves, in combination with the blades I), set separately and independently into said grooves and extending from the back A into the space between the covers B B, as specified.
