. SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 292,484, dated January 29, 1884.
Application filed October 11, 183. (No model.) v
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN GRoss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ottawa, in the county of La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension-Files, of which the follow ing is a specification, to wit:
This invention relates to an improvement in extension-files; and it consists in afile composed of two parts, one of which slides within the other, substantially as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the-art to avail themselves of my invention, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the accompanying drawings, in .which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device filled with papers, and Fig. 2 is asimilar View broken away to show its construction.
a a represent the covers or sides of my file, to one of which, a, is secured, at its inner end,
an extension-section of card-board or other moderately stiff but flexible material, I). This extension is upon its end formed with a T- head or tongue, 0, as represented in Fig. 2. i
hold closely a larger or smaller number ofpapers, while the two covers cannot be entirely separated by reason of the tongue engaging with the slotted intermediate portion, as shown.
This file may be furnished with a rubber band, tape, or similar device, for securing it when closed. 7
Having thus fully described my invention,
for the purpose set forth.
2. A file-holder made in two parts, one of which forms a pocket containing a slotted intermediate piece, and the other has secured to it an extension formed with a T-head or tongue upon its end, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a file-holder, the cover a, provided with the extension b, having the tongue 0, in combination with the cover a, forming a pocket in which is secured the intermediate part, (1, formed with slot d, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two' witnesses.
JOHN GROSS. Witnesses:
