To all whom'it may concern:

Be it known that 1, ROBERT F. WALSH, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful vImprovement in Slate-Frames, of which the followingis a full, clear,and exact description.

The object of this invention is to promote convenience in the use of slates in schools and other places.

The invention consists in a slate-frame made with a slot in one end bar to rceive a pivoted copy and name-bearing polygon, and with copy-receiving recesses III, the other end bar, whereby the copies ill-be protected from ini in one side bar of the frame is formed a pencil-receiving groove provided with a sliding cover, and in the other side bar is formed a slot in which is secured a knife for sharpening pencils, as will be hereinafter fully described. i

A represents the slate-frame, thetop end bar of which is made' wide, and has a longitudinal slot, B, formed in it. Within the slot B is placed a cy linder, U, which is pivoted at its ends to the frame A at the ends of the slot B. The polygon U is made with live (more or less) sides,'npon which are formed figures, letters, or words to serve as copies for the person using the slate, whereby several copies can be kept in-small space, and either of said copies can be readily brought. into view. side or" the polygonal cylinder (3 is designed to receive the name of the person owning the slate, which is agreat convenience in schools where there are a number of similar slates, as it fixes the ownership of each slate, and thus prevents two or more persons from claiming the same slate. The edge of the knife H which projects into the slot G is concaved, as shown in Fig. 1, to cause it to round the pencil more readily while the said pencil is being sharpened.
