Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDREW J. LONGENEOKER, OF ELK GROVE, CALIFORNIA.
DOOR-SECURER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 390,130, dated September 25 1888.
Application filed April 18, 1888. Serial No. 271,004. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ANDREW J. LONGE- NECKER, a citizen of the United States, and-a resident of Elk Grove, in the county of Sacramento and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door- Securers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of this invention, and is a plan view of the se curer attached to a lock of a door. Fig. 2 is a perspective view.
The invention relates to improvements in devices for securing doors; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth.
The object of my invention is to provide a door-fastener that may be easily attached and detached from any door on the inside, and that may be conveniently carried in the pocket, making it useful for travelers.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the neck of the door-knob, and B the bo1t-keeper.
0 represents the metal locking-plate, having one end turned at right angles a and then outward parallel to the main portion, as at b. At the opposite end the plate 0 is turned upwardly, as at c, and an opening, d, is provided 5 in the portion 0 for the sliding bolt D, and a further bearing, 6, for the bolt D is provided about midway of the plate 0. The bolt D slides easily in the bearings, and to prevent it from being entirely removed therefrom its in ner end is headed, as at f. The outer end of the bolt is formed in hook shape, E, the said hook being adapted to the size of the neck A of the door-knob.
To attach the fastener, the portion 1) is inserted in the keeper, bringing the portion a against the edge of the door and the portion 0 against the face of the door or look. The bolt D is then drawn outwardly until the hook E can be placed in engagement with the neck A, the hook being preferably turned downward.
Having described my invention, what Iclaim is In a door-securer, the combination of the plate 0, having the right-angle portion a, the portion b, parallel to the main portion, the upwardlyturned end 0, provided with the opening d, the bearing, and the sliding bolt D, having the hook end to engage the neck of a door-k nob, and the headed and f, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
W'i tnesses:
RICHARD ALLIN, O. A. ELLIOTT.
