JOSEPH \V. GOSLING, OF STOOKPORT, COUNTY OF CHESTER, ENGLAND.
SWEAT BAN D FOR HATS.
SPECIPiCATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 389,962, dated September 25, 1888.
Application filed March I, 1858. Serial No. 266,490. (No model.) Patented in England March 31, 1884, No. 5,694.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosErH W. GOSLING, of Stockport, county of Chester, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hat- Sweats or Sweat-Pads; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and to my English patent, No. 5,694, of March 31, 1884..
This invention has for its object the construction of a hat in such manner that the sweat-band may be readily detached therefrom when desired, for the purpose of drying the same when it has become wet from perspiration, or replacing it with another one, as will be hereinafter described.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents the sectional view of a hat with my improvement attached thereto; Fig. 2, a front view of a metal plate having an elongated slot, and Fig. 3 a side View of a turning button having an elongated head.
A, Fig. 1, represents a hat of any proper construction, which is provided at proper points within the same with the metal fastening a, having an elongated head, as shown in Fig. 3.
B, Fig. 2, represents a section of the sweatband having any number of metal plates, b, secured thereto at the proper points on the outside of the same, these plates having an. elongated slot, as shown, to correspond with the head 0 of the plate a, secured to the inside of the hat.
Fig. 3 represents the turning button, consisting of a metal plate, a, secured to a section of the hat, and provided with a stud having an elongated head, 0, to correspond with the elongated slot in plate I), seen red to the sweat-band, Fig. 2. This stud is loosely secured to the plate a in such a manner as to be capable of turning therein, so as to allow the head 0 to rest transversely across the elongated slot in plate I) after being passed through the same, and thereby secure the sweat-band to the hat adjustably.
The manner of attaching and detaching the sweat-band to the hat will be readily understood, and the advantages of the described construction are, that two or more sweats may be carried with the hat, and a new one can be readily inserted when the one used has become wet with perspiration or soiled from wear.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with a hat having metal fastenings secured to the inside of the same and provided with a turning button having an elongated head, a sweat-band provided with metal plates having an elongated slot adapted to receive the elongated head 0, as and for the purpose described.
This specification signed and witnessed this 20th day of February, 1888.
JOSEPH W. GOSLING.
