HAT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW G. SWANSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hats, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in hats and aims to provide a hat whereby the head of the wearer is kept thoroughly ventilated.
Another object of my improvement is to provide a hat whereby the head of the wearer will not become overheated.
-With the foregoing and other objects in View my invention relates to such details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved hat, Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of my hat taken on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a supporting rib used with my hat.
In carrying my invention into practice I provide a hat havin a brim 1 having a crown secured thereto by any suitable means. Formed on each side of the crown?) are a plurality of slots 3. Secured to the inner side of the crown 2 and near the center thereof by any suitable means are the supporting ribs 4 having struck out portions 5 thereon. The struck out portions 5 are adapted to support the portion 6 of the crown 2 which is between the slits 3 so that there may be a circulation of air through the hat.
It is thought that from the foregoing the advantages of my improved hat will be appreciated.

I desire it to be understood that certain changes in the construction may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit of my invention provided such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A hat provided with a slit, in combination with means located adjacent the slit to provide a ventilating opening, said means comprising a strip of material having an inclined portion to engage the hat adjacent said slit.
2. A hat provided with a plurality of slits, in combination with means located adjacent said slits to provide a plurality of ventilating openings, said means comprising a strip of material having a plurality of inclined portions to engage the hat adjacent said slits.
3.'A hat having a crown provided with slits on opposite sides thereof, in combination with means located adjacent said slits to provide ventilating openings, said means comprising a strip of material having an inclined portion to engage the hat adjacent said slits.
4. A hat provided with a slit, in combination with means located adjacent said slit to provide a ventilating opening, said means comprising a strip having a projection provided with an inclined portion to engage the hat adjacent said slit.
5. A hat having a crown provided with slits on opposite sides thereof, in combination with means located adjacent said slits to provide ventilating openings, said means comprising a strip of material provided on opposite sides with projections to engage the hat adjacent said slits.
