Definitions

  • An incineration device for rubbish or industrial refuse comprising a rotating furnace casing and an ash receiver which comprises a casing concentric with the furnace casing, closed at both ends and extending beyond the discharge end of the furnace casing, and one helical blade rotating with said furnace casing and arranged in the space between the ash-receiver casing and the furnace casing for driving the ashes away from their spot of discharge in the ash receiver.
  • the present invention relates essentially to an incineration device. in particular for household and industrial rubbish or refuse, of the type provided with a rotary furnace in which are burnt the said rubbish and refuse, the ashes and incineration residues of which pour into a receptacle at one end of the furnace.
  • the refuse and rubbish are introduced at one end of the furnace and are displaced within the furnace by such appropriate means that the rotation of the furnace results in a displacement of the said refuse, the ashes falling at the other end of the furnace into a receptacle from which they must thereafter be extracted.
  • the ash receiver or receptacle itself gives rise to problems of design, space and installing of the device as a whole. These considerations are acquiring increasing importance owing to the dimensionsal restraints imposed on the plants and to the necessity of obtaining a homogeneous make-up.
  • means for handling the ash receiver must be provided to displace and empty it when full.
  • the invention provides a device for the incineration of household or industrial refuse or rubbish. of the type comprising a furnace casing having generally a shape of revolution, one end of which serves for the introduction of the said refuse or waste and the other end of which serves for the discharge of the ashes and incineration refuse into an ash receiver, characterized in that it comprises a second casing which is concentric with the furnace and closed at both its ends beyond the discharge end of the furnace, at least one helical blade or endless screw rotating jointly with the furnace being arranged in at least a portion of the space comprised between the two casings in order to drive the ashes and residues in the normal direction of rotation of the furnace towards the end opposite to their charging spot into the said ash receiver to avoid their piling up at that spot and thereafter distribute them in the said ash receiver.
  • the ashes and residues leaving the furnace fall by gravity into the space provided for this purpose in the ash receiver and are driven towards the opposite end of the said ash receiver under the action of the rotation of the furnace and ash receiver, by being guided towards the said opposite end by the said helical wall.
  • FIG. I is a diagrammatic sectional view of one form of embodiment of the device according to the invention.
  • FIG. 2 is a diagrammatic view of another form of embodiment of the invention.
  • FIG. 3 is also a sectional view of a modified form of embodiment of the invention.
  • FIG. 4 is a front view of one of the removable panels of the ash receiver.
  • FIG. 5 is a sectional view of the removable panel shown in FIG. 4.
  • the rubbish incineration device therefore comprises a cylindrical furnace l driven in rotation, both ends of which are open. one end 2 serving for the introduction of the rubbish or refuse into the furnace, and the opposite end 3 serving for the discharge of the ashes and incineration residues into the ash receiver 4.
  • the ash receiver 4 is formed of an outer cylindrical casing 5 which is arranged coaxially to the furnace 1, outside the latter, and both ends of which are closed. one by an annular wall 6 flush with the end 2 of the furnace, and the other end by a plane wall 7 arranged at the front of the end 3 of the furnace I, so as to provide between this end of the furnace and the said wall an ash receiving space.
  • the ash receiver 4 rotates jointly with the furnace 1 and is provided with a helical blade 8 extending in the free space provided between the cylindrical casing 5 and the outer casing of the furnace 1.
  • doors 9 arranged in the wall of the cylindrical casing 5 enabling the ashes to be discharged towards a device provided for that purpose (not shown).
  • the operation ofthe incineration device according to the invention is as follows.
  • the refuse introduced into the furnace through the charging end 2 are incinerated during the rotation of the furnace by means of burners (not shown) and advance simultaneously during their combustion towards the opposite end 3 of the furnace.
  • the ashes and incineration residues fall by gravity into the ash-receiver space located in front of the end 3 of the furnace and are then driven by the rotation of the ash receiver 4 towards the bottom 6 by being guided and driven by the said helical blade 8.
  • the volume of the ash receiver 4 is so calculated as to contain the ashes from a given operation, such as for example one working day. after which the ash receiver is emptied. To this end, the doors 9 are opened and then the ash receiver 4 and the furnace l are driven in rotation in the opposite direction, and this results in the ashes being moved back to the doors 9, from which they fall outside the said ash receiver.
  • FIG. 2 is shown a modified form of embodiment of the device, wherein the furnace 10 is in the shape of a truncated cone. and so is the ash receiver 14.
  • the furnace 20 has the shape of a truncated cone. whereas the ash receiver 24 is cylindrical with a circular section.
  • FIGS. 4 and 5 An advantageous form of embodiment of the doors 9 is shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, wlherein the said doors are constituted by removable panels 25 formed ofa curved metal plate pressed outwardly on one of its sides to form a hinge 26 and provided on its opposite side with locking means 27 shown in locked position, such as for example spring locks of the type used in aircraft construction under the name of d2us".
  • This removable panel is mounted on a corresponding opening of the cylindrical casing 5, the upper and lower ends of which may be pressed inwardly or provided with appropriate raised edges forming a support for the panel 25.
  • the present invention therefore permits to obtain. for an equal ash storage volume, mush reduced overall dimensions of the furnace and ash-receiver device than in the devices of the prior art, and provides a homogeneous set-up in which the ingress of intefering air can be readily controlled or removed.
  • the invention is therefore particularly suitable for obtaining a mobile and autonomous household refuse incineration device.
  • An incineration device in particular for rubbish and other household or industrial refuse, of the type comprising a rotatable furnace casing having an axis of revolution about which the casing is rotatable, said casing having one end for the introduction of the said rubbish or refuse and an opposite end for discharge of ashes and incineration residues, an ash-receiver comprising a second casing for receiving said ashes and incineration residues discharged from the opposite end of the furnace, said second casing being concentric with the furnace casing and closed at its opposite ends and being of a length longer than the furnace casing whereby to extend beyond the discharge end of the furnace, said second casing being provided with at least one helical blade in at least a portion of the space between the two concentric casings and being rotatable in opposite directions in one of which, in cooperation with said blade.
  • said ashes and residues are moved toward said one end of said furnace, said second casing being provided adjacent the discharge end of the furnace with at least one door permitting discharge of said ashes and residues from said second casing upon reversing the direction of rotation of said second casing relative to said one direction of rotation thereof.
  • a device wherein the axis of revolution of the furnace is inclined with respect to a horizontal line, said furnace having upper and lower ends forming respectively the said one end and the said discharge ends.
  • a device wherein the said at least one door is a removable panel forming a part of the second casing and provided with locking means.
  • An incineration device in particular for rubbish and other household or industrial refuse, of the type comprising a rotatable furnace casing having an axis of revolution about which the casing is rotatable, said casing having one end for the introduction of the said rubbish or refuse and an opposite end for discharge of ashes and incineration residues, an ash-receiver comprising a second casing for receiving said ashes and incineration residues discharged from the opposite end of the furnace.
  • said second casing being concentric with the furnace casing and closed at its opposite ends and being of a length longer than the furnace casing whereby to extend beyond the discharge end of the furnace, at least one helical blade on one of said casings in at least a portion of the space between the two concentric casings and being rotatable in opposite directions in one of which said ashes and residues are moved toward said one end of the furnace, said second casing being provided adjacent the discharge end of the furnace with at least one door permitting discharge of said ashes and residues from said second casing upon reversing the direction of rotation of said blade relative to said one direction of rotation thereof.
