UNITED vSTATES PATENT OEEICE.
JULIUS VST, OF PRAGUE, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
DETACHABLE SOLE FOR BOOTS Olii SHOES.
SPECIFICATION' forming pari'. of Letters Patent; No.
(No model.) Patented in England April 23, 1887, No. 5,943.
Application tiled May 16, 1887. Serial No. 238,362.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JULIUs VVST, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Prague, Austrialungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or relating to Detachable Soles for Boots or Shoes, of which the following is a specifica tion.
The object of the present invention is to design a double or clump77 sole for boots or shoes, which may easily be detached or replaced by any one.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure I represents a plan ofthe double sole ready attached. Fig. Il is a longitudinal section on line y z of Fig. I. Fig. Ill is a cross-section on linexx of Fig. I. Fig. IV shows the double sole in plan view in the action of being attached or detached. Fig. Vis a plan of the double sole with its metal strip around the edge thereof.
The letter O indicates the upper ofthe shoe, and D the sole, which are of the usual construction. Z indicates a met allie plate, which con forms to the shape of the sole and is slightly smaller than the same. The central portion of said plate is raised, as plainly shown in Fig. 1V, so as to form a depressed recess eX- tending around the sides and front ofthe plate, for the purpose hereinafter described. The raised portion of the plate is secured to the bottom of the solo D by means of screws a or other fastening devices, leaving the recessed edge of the plate before mentioned free.
rI`he letter S indicates a half-sole, which has secured to its upper surface a metallic frame, which conforms to the shape of the sole, and which is bent or stamped, so as to form a recessed edge around the interior portion of the sides and toe, which is adapted to pass over 375,718, dated December 27,1887.
andV interlock with the recessed edge of the plate Z, as before mentioned.-
To apply the half-sole it is only necessary to slip it onto the plate Z from the front, the interlocking edges of said plate holding it in place. As an additional security, the half-sole may be further fastened by a screw, d; but this is not absolutely necessary.
It will be seen that as thus constructed the half-sole may be readily attached and detached y by slipping it on or off of the main sole.
In the manufacture of this article it is only necessary to number the different sizes of boots and the respective clumps .or soles vto enable any one to procure the right size by quoting the number and to resole his or her boots.
This invention is also applicable to existing boots if a tongue or plate beiixed to theirsoles.
I claim- The combination, with the main sole of a shoe and the metallic plate, raised at the center and having a recessed edge around its sides and toe, the raised portion of the said plate being fastened to the main sole, of the half or clump sole and the metallic frame secured thereto, the said frame having a recess around the inner side and toe portions corresponding with the recessed edge of the plate and adapted to interlock therewith to secure the soles to each other, substantially as specilied.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JULI US VST.
Vitn esses HENRY Son-MOLKA, ADOLE FISCHER.
