B. PAGHTMANN.
PICTURE HOLDER.
Patented D 20, 1887.
N. PETERs. PhmLihogwder, W 0.4:.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDUARD PAOHTMANN, OF DRESDEN, SAXONY, GERMANY.
PICTURE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 375,189, dated December 20, 1887.
Application filed April 30, 1887. Serial No. 236,744. (No model.)
1' 0 ctZl whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDUARD PAOHTMANN, a subject of the King of Saxony, residing at the city of Dresden, Saxony, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Picture-Holders, of which the following is a clear and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to produce a holder for photographs or other cards; and it consists of a novel device for holding the cards and for locking the cover of the same.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of my improved picture-holder embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same. Fig. 3 is an enlarged front View of a modified form of the clasp. Fig. 4 is another modified form of the clasp. Fig. 5 is another modified form of the clasp.
A is the holder, consisting of the two side standards, a a, connected at the top by the cross-piece d and at the bottom by the rest a which serves as a rest for the photograph leaves or cards a. The frame is further strengthened by the back plate or board, 0. b is the cover, hinged at a; as to the side frames, a a. The photographic or other cards are introduced between the cover b and back plate, 0. They rest loosely on the rest a in the manner shown in Fig. 1.
The cover bis provided at the top with a clasp, 6, consisting of two sliding bars, 6 e, acted upon by the spring e These bars at y "3 enter sockets in the side frame, and are drawn inward by the knobs e 6.
By this arrangement the photographic leaves or cards a a can be easily inserted or removed for replacing other leaves or cards. Dhe steplike arrangement of the rest a permits this to be done. The steps of the rest a can be of any shape that will produce the desired result.
In some cases I use the clasps f and 9, (shown in Figs. 3 and 4,)which reach from the backing 0 to the cover I) and fasten themselves be tween the knobs i.
I may also use the clasp H, as shown in Fig. 5, consisting of a tube, h, into which is inserted the screw-rod h. The lower end of this red h is provided with disk If, and is pressed between knobs i 2'. (See Fig. 5.) This device enables the clasp to be adjusted according to the capacity of the holder.
3. In a picture-holder, the combination of the side frame, a a, held together by the crosspiece d, the back 0, the step-like rest a, the photographic leaves or cards a a, and the cover b, provided with claspe, constructed as shown, all arranged substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
EDUARD PAOHTMANN.
