WILLIAM VERBEGK, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
PHOTOGRAPHIC AND CARD FILE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 316,586, dated April 28, 1885.
Application filed March 20, 1884. (No model.)
To 00 whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM VERBECK, of the city of Oakland, county of Alameda, and State of California, have invented an Improvement in Photographic and Card Files; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to a holder or file for photographs, cards, &c.; and it consists of a series of clasps arranged so that one or two will hold the card, the sets being held together by cords orlinks, as willbe more fully explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view of my device fitted with covers to form an album. Fig. 2 is a plan showing the album closed. Fig. 3 is a view of my device arranged to hold a series of pictures, the clamps being secured together by links. Fig. 4 is a view of the clamps. Fig. 5 is a plan showing how the pictures are held.
A A are clamps formed by folding a thin broad sheet of metal, which is preferably elastic, upon itself, the open end serving to hold a card or'picture, which may be introduced between the two sides. The back or fold is made suflieiently open to allow cords to pass through, and any number of these clamps may be united by passing two cords back and forth through them and drawing it tight enough to hold them together. If desired, the clamps may be held together permanently by uniting them with loops or links of wire. Cards or pictures may be held in these clamps, so as to form a book, by inserting one edge of each card into two of these clamps, one near each end, so that they form hinges. In some cases the two sets of clamps are secured between permanent covers, as many pairs being used as it may be desired to have cards. If the clamps are to be used without covers, the outer pairs may be formed in ornamental shapes to represent leaves or other fanciful designs, and fringed chromo or other ornamental cards may be placed in these outer clamps, so as to form protective covers, between which the pictures are held by the interior clamps. Any card may be easily removed or changed, and the whole device forms a neat means for filing photographic or other cards. If the clamps are to be used with covers, they may be stitched or otherwise fixed directly to the covers, in which case they need not be connected together.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A holder or file consisting of a series of metal strips folded upon themselves, so that a card may be held between the elastic open ends, and having the closed ends or bights connected with each other by links or cords, substantially as herein described.
2. A holder or file consisting of a series of metal strips folded upon themselves, so that cards may be held between the open ends, the closed ends or bights being united by cords or links, in combination with covers within which two sets of clamps are secured near the top and bottom, substantially as herein described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
WILLIAM VERBEGK.
