T-SQUARE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 375,030, dated December 20, 1887.
Application filed May 19, 1887. Serial No. 238,801. (No model.)

Be it known that I, ARTHUR J. WEED, a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful T-Square Holder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in T-square holders in which the head of the T- square is held against the side of the drawingboard by the compression of a spring attached to and forming part of the holder; and the objects of my invention are, first, to hold the T- square in the proper position on the drawingboard by an implement placed on the T-square blade at a distance from the head of the T- square corresponding to the-size of the drawing-board; second, to attach the implement to the blade of the T-square in such a manner that it can be instantly adjusted for any size ofdrawing-board consistent with the length of the T-square; third, to attach the implement to the T-square blade firmly without injury to.
the edge of the blade; fourth, to hold the T- square in position on the drawing-board by the compression of a spiral spring;'and, fifth, to hold the T-square in proper position at any point on the drawing-board regardless of the angle which the drawingboard may assume from a horizontal plane. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is an elevation in perspective of the implement. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the implement. Fig. 3 is an end view of the implement, and Fig. 4 is a top View of a drawing-board and T-square with the implement attached.

The plate A, having the projections H I underneath, form the body of the implement. In each of the projections H and I is drilled a hole at an equal distance from the under side of the plate A, through which the bar 0 can slide freely. To one end of the bar 0 is secured the head E, the face of which is slightly rounded to prevent it from injuring the grain of the wood when slid along the side of the drawingboard F. Around the bar 0, between the projections H and I, is the spiral spring D, which is compressed between the projection I and the washer a. Passing through the bar 0 is the pin 1), against which the washer ais held by the compression of thespring D. Thepin 1) passes through the bar 0 at a point where it will strike theprojection H, thereby preventing the bar 0 from being driven out of the projection I by the expanding of the spring D, all of which is shown in Fig. 2. The clamp B holds the plate A firmly against the under side of the T-square blade G. The ends of the clamp B turn downward at right angles, and are parallel with each other, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The two ends of the clamp B pass through two holes in the plate A, as shown in Fig. 1.
Secured to the ends of the clamp B are the heads or washers c c, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. Around each end of the clamp B, after they pass through the two holes in the plate A, are the spiral springs d d, which, being compressed between the under side of the plate A and the heads or washers c a, hold the plat A firmly against the under side of the T-square blade G. The screws 6 e, the lower ends of which are pointed, pass through the clamp B, Fig. 1, and can be adjusted to indent the up per side of the T-square blade G sufficiently to prevent the implement from sliding thereon.
To apply the implement to the T-square blade, it is taken between the thumb and finger of each hand, as shown in Fig. 1, thus compressing the springs d d and making an opening for the T-square blade between the clamp B and the plate A.
When in use, the implement is attached firmly to the T-square blade G by the clamp B. The spring D, acting through the washer a, the pin 1), and the bar 0, holds the head E against the side of the drawing-board F. The spring D in holding the head E against the side of the drawing-board F in the above combinations exerts a reaction against the projection I, which, acting through the plate A, the clamp B, and the Tsquare blade G, holds the head of the T-square J against the side of the drawing-board F with a force corresponding to the amount of compression which has been applied to the spring D. The compression of the spring D is varied by placing the implement on the blade of the T-square nearer to or farther from the drawing-board F.
