MARTIN PEDE-RSON, OF PROC'IOR, MINNESOTA.
CHALK-HOLDING DEVICE.
Application filed May 20, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN PEDERSON, a subject of Norway, residing at Proctor, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chalk-Holding Devices; and hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in chalk holding devices for chalking billiard cue tips, and consists of a simple and eflicient device of this nature having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accom panying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my chalk holding device.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view vertically and longitudinally through the device, and
Fig. 3 is an end view.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter:
A and A designate two complemental jaws, each having a cut away portion B therein and each provided with an angled cornered portion C, the four of which upon the two jaws form means for clamping the corners of the chalk N. Each jaw has fingers F projecting in opposite directions and provided with registering apertures to receive the pivotal pin K. O is a plate having two downwardly projecting angled flanges L apertured to receive said pivotal pin, and R is an eye projecting from the plate and to caplet a! thin patent may be obtained {or flve cents each, by addressing the Specification of Letters Patent.

which a supporting cord is adapted to be attached. Each plate has an outwardly and horizontally projecting portion S and an upright projecting handle end T. A leaf spring is mounted upon the threaded shank portion of said eye and the ends of the spring bear against the outwardly extending portions M of the jaws, and tend to normally hold the latter in clamped relation with the chalk, the friction intermediate the jaws and chalk being sufiicient to hold the latter in place.
WVhen it is desired to release the chalk the two handle ends of the aws are pressed together causing the spring to be put under tension and yield, but when pressure is released said jaws will return to their normal positions.
' What I claim to be new is:
1. A chalk holding device, consisting of two complemental spring pressed jaws piv oted together, and having angled corners with open work between the same, adapted to grip and frictionally hold a piece of chalk, a plate having angled flanges mounted upon the pivots connecting the jaws, and an eye secured to said plate.
2. A chalk holding device, consisting of two complemental jaws having angled corners and open work between the same, and fingers projecting in opposite directions overlapping each other, and a pivot passing through registering apertures in said fingers, each jaw having a laterally extending portion with a right angled handle portion, a plate having angled flanges pivoted upon said pin, an eye passing through said plate and having a shank portion underneath the same, a leaf spring mounted upon said shank portion and bearing against said outwardly projecting portions of the jaws.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARTIN PEDERSON.
