Patented Aug. 15, 1916.
Application filed October 12, 1914. Serial No. 866,327.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH RoMANowsKI, a citizen of the United States of Amerlca, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certaln new and useful Improvements in Screw- Clamps, of which the following is a speclfication.
This invention relates to improvements in screw clamps of the class designed for temporarily holding together the beveled edges of pieces that are being secured by nails or while adhesive material applied to those edges sets.
The object of-the invention is to produce a simple and practical device of this kind that is positive in operation and cheap to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination andarrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described in the following specification, pointed out in the claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of said specification and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my 11nproved screw clamp in use. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
Like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The reference numerals 1, 2 and 3 designate the pieces which are to be fastened together so that the pieces 1 and3 will be at right angles with the piece 2.
My clamp consists of a bar 4 formed with apertures 5 and provided at one end with a head 6 in which a hand screw 7 is journaled that is provided with the contact shoe 8. Cooperating with the bar 4 is another bar 9 formed with apertures 10 and provided at one end with a head 11, similar to the head 6, that carries a hand screw 12 provided with a contact shoe 13. The bars 4 and 9 are adjustably connected by a thumb screw 14 adapted for insertion in the apertured portions 5 and 10 and while so connected they are capable of adjustment with relation to each other by means of a turnbuckle 15, the screws of which are adapted for engagement with the apertured portions 5, 10 of said bars. A lever 16 removably pivoted. in one of the apertured portions of tion the turnbuc :le 15 alone or in conjunction with the lever 16 may be operated to cause the bars 4 and 9 to re-adjust said pieces and to retain them true during the setting period.
What is claimed is:
1. A screw clamp comprising apertured bars and an adjusting screw for entering the apertured portions of said bars to releasably connect them to each other, heads terminally carried by said bars, hand screws carried by said heads, contact shoes carried by said hand screws and a turnbuckle adapted for releasable connection with the apertured portions of said bars whereby they may be angularly adjusted with relation to each other.
2. A clamp of the type described, including bar members adjustably connected whereby they may be positioned at right angles to each other, said adjustably connected bar members being provided with clamp j aw-equipped members at their ends, the clamping action of the latter being exerted parallel with said adjustably connected members, respectively, said adjustably connected members providing at their point of connection a holding action for the work in conjunction with the aforesaid clamping action.
3. A clamp of the type described, including bar members adjustably connected whereby they may be positioned at right angles to each other, said adjustably connected bar members being provided with clamp-jaw equipped members at their ends, the clamping action of the latter being exerted parallel with said adjustably connected members, respectively, said adjustably connected members providing at their point of union holding action for the work in conjunction with the aforesaid ture in the presence of two subscribing witclamping actlon, and an addltional ad3ustnesses.
