SKIRT AND STOCKING PROTECTOR.
Patented Sept.6, 1887.

GRACE H. LAsswnLL, or NORMAL, ILLINOIS.
SKIRT AND STOCKING PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 369.535, dated September 6, 1887.
Application filed February 28, 1887. Serial No. 229,215. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GRACE H. LAsswnLL, of Normal, in the county of McLean, and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skirt and Stocking Protectors; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of refer ence marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in skirt-protectors, the object of the same being to provide a device ofthls character which will effectually protectthe stockings and skirts from mud and water and will add to the dress a neat and attractive appearance.
A further object is to provide a device of the above character which shall be durable and efficient in use and simple and economical in construction; and with these ends in view my invention consists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is ,a view of the protector as it appears when secured on a woman. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, and Fig. 3 is a view partly in section and partly in elevation.
A represents the outside of the protector, and B the inside fold thereof, the latter being connected to the top of the leggins G, which are formed with an open side and provided with means for securing the same. The bottoms of the leggins are provided with suitable straps, which pass under the feet and serve to keep the leggins in position. To the piece A are secured the straps D, preferably formed wide at their bottoms and converging toward their upper parts, at which point they are at tached to the belt E, which encircles the waist and supports the protector on the figure.
The. front of the piece A is formed open and is adapted to be secured together in any convenient manner, the object of which is to enable the skirts and dress to be more conveniently put between the folds.
hen used, the leggins are secured upon the legs, as shown, and the skirts are tucked between the pieces A and B. The straps D are drawn up and secured by means ofthe belt.
It will be seen that a protector of this coir struction when fastened to a woman affords the legs a free and natural movement. It is very neat, and has the appearance of a bind ing on the dress.
The protector may be made of gossamer or any other water-proof material.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A skirt and stocking protector composed of the section A, having a front opening therein and means for fastening the same, and the section B as a continnationthereof, forming a fold to receive the skirts, leggins adapted to protect the stockings, and means for fastening the same, the free edges of the section B secured to the upper part of the leggins, and straps secured to the outside section, A, joining a belt, by means of which the protector is held on the figure, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 19th day of February, 1887.
GRACE H. LASSWELL.
