A. ROEDER.
v SHUTTER FASTENER AND BOWBR. No. 366,881. Patented July 19, 1887.
WITNESSES:
N PETERS. PhowUlhogx-aphnr. Washinginn, D. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED ROEDEE, OF EAST GREENVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
SHUTTER FASTENER AND BOWER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 366,881, dated Jul 19, 1887.
Application filed April 30, 1887. Serial No. 236,650. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALFRED ROEDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Greenville, in the county of Montgomery, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shutter Fasteners and Bowers, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of improvements in the class of shutter fasteners and bowers, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
Figure 1 represents a top or plan view of a shutter fastener and bower embodying my invcntion. Fig. 2 represents a side elevation thereof, partly sectional.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
Referring to the drawings, A represents an arm, the inner end of which has a semi-spherical head, B, which is located freely within the socket C, the latter being adapted to be secured to a windowsill. The outer end of the arm has an obliquelyarranged extension, D, of L shape, the inner angle of which has a recess, E. Projecting downwardly from the ends of the arm and extension, respectivel y, are pins or studs F F, adapted to enter openings G in a horizontal plate, II, which is secured to a windowshutter.
J represents an L-shaped plate, which is adapted to be secured to the hinged end of a shutter, the same having at its anglea lip, K, and at the end of the short limb a lip, L, said lips being parallel with the long limb of the plate. On the outer face of the plate is an eye, M, which, when the shutter is opened, receives the stud E.
The limbs of the plate J and the lip L embrace the opposite sides of the end of the shutter, whereby the plate is firmly connected in position.
\Vhen the shutter is opened, the arm A is raised and swung out and engaged with the plate J, the stud F enters the eye M, the lip L enters the recess E, and the two limbs of the extension D embrace the two limbs of the plate J, whereby the shutter is held open in a firm and reliable manner and prevented from rattling. By raising the arm it is disengaged from the plate J, and the shutter may be closed and locked or fastened by said arm. In this case the pins F F are inserted in openings G in the plate H, and the arm A drops behind a shoulder, a, on the upper wall of the socket 0, whereby outward motion of the shutter is prevented. 13y raising the arm the shutter may be lowered and held by the arm, the pin F being inserted in either of the open ings of the plate, according to the extent it is desired to bow the shutter.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- '1. 'A shutter-fastener having a'swinging arm with the L-shaped extension I), provided with the recess E, and the plate J, with the lip L, said parts being combined substantially as described.
2. A shutter-fastener having a swinging arm with an extension provided with a pin and a recess, and a plate with an eye and a lip, L, said parts being combined substantially as described.
3. The plate J, with eye M and lip K, and the arm A, with pin E and recess E, and openings G, substantially as described.
4:. In ashuttcr-fastener, aswinging arm with an extension having a pin and provided with a recess, in combination with a socket having the shoulder a, the plate J, having lips L and eye M, and the plate H, with openings G, substantially as described.
5. The arm A, with head 13, L-shapcd extension D, recess E, and pins F F, in combination with the plate II, having openings G, and the plate J, having an eye, M, and lip K, said parts being combined and operating substantially as described.
ALFRED ROEDER.
