Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WVENDELIN SENG, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN EXTENSION-HINGES FOR LOUNGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,869, dated February 24, 1874; application filed August 19, 1873.
CASE B.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WENDELIN Sane, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented an Improvement in Extension Lounge-Hinges, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of the present invention consists in an extension lounge-hinge, which is provided with lock-stops on the wings to prevent them from extending when the lounge is closed, as hereinafter fully described and shown.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective representation of the improved extension-hinge as used when the lounge is open; Fig. .2, a transverse section of the lounge closed, with hinge in position as when the lockstops prevent an extension of the wings of the hinge.
B represents the jointed wing of the hinge, which is provided with a tongue, 0, to slide on the wing A, which is slotted out at F to receive a guide-pin, E, which holds the tongue 0 in place. The device, so far, is not claimed to be new, it having been claimed before 5 but the lock-stop G, attached to and projecting out from the wing B, and the stop H, attached to and projecting up from the wing A, are new, and make the extension-hinge practicable, as shown by the operation.
The wing B is attached to the lower or stationary part T, and the wing A attached to the folding or upper part S of the lounge, as shown at Fig. 1, so that when the folded part is closed, as shown in Fig. 2, the stop Gr looks over stop H, and this prevents the tongue 0 from sliding on the wing A, and from tearing the cloth V, which conceals the joint at the front of the lounge. Then there are no locks, the folding part S has a constant lateral movement on the tongue (J; hence the importance of the locks.
I do not claim the extensioirhinge alone; but
. \Vhat I do claim is The extension lounge-hiuge A B C provided with the lock-stops G H, as set forth.
Witnesses: XVENDE LIN SENG.
