AWNING SLIDE OR RUNNER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 441,021, dated November-\;18, 1890.
Application filed April '7, 1890. Serial No. 346,920. (No model.)
To all whom it hwy concern.-
Beit known that I, HENRY O. HECTOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lincoln, in the county of Lancaster and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in IVindow-Awning Slides or Runners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to window-awning hinge-s.
The purpose of the invention is to prevent the slide rattling on the guide-rod and lock it securely when the awning is let down.
The improvement consists of the novel features which hereinafter will be more fully described and claimed, and which are shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of an awning-slide embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, showing the slide in section and its operation by dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the parts separted and placed in their relative position.
The guide-rod A is suitably constructed to be secured to the wall or window and door casings, and for this purpose is provided at its ends, one end only being shown equipped, with a casting or bracket B.
The slide or runner C is mounted on rod A, and is provided with the ears f, between which the coupling D is inserted and pivotally connected by the pin F. The inner end of coupling D is extended to form the interlocking projection d, which is adapted to enter a recess a, in the side of the guide-rod A and hold the coupling in place on the said rod. The recess a is sloping at its lower end and terminates in a shoulder at its upper end, and the extension cl terminates in a corre sponding shoulder, which abuts against the shoulder at the upper end of the recess a to prevent the slide moving up when the awning is down. The brace-rod or stretcher E is connected with the coupling D, or may form one therewith, asdesired.
I do not wish to restrict myself to the number of recesses in. the rod A or to their exact position, as they will be provided in sufficient .lVhcn the coupling D is turned up approximately parallel with the rod A, the projection (Z is disengaged from the rod and the slide is free to be moved up or down; but when the slide is down and opposite recess a and the coupling D is turned at right angles to rod A the extension will enter the recess a and lock the slide to the rod.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination,with the rod having arecess and the slide having an opening through its front wall of the reach pivoted to the slide and having an extension at its rear end to pass through the said opening and enter the recess in the rod when the said coupling is turned at right angles to the rod and lock the slide on the said rod, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with the vertical guiderod and the movable slide mounted on the said guide-rod, of a reach or brace pivoted to the movable slide and having its end constructed to engage the said vertical guide-rod and automatically lock the slides in place, and a spring mounted on the guide-rod and adapted to press upon theslide when the latter is in place, substantially as described.
3'. The combination, with the rod having a recess, of the slide having ears and an opening in its side opposite the space between the ears, of the reach having pivotal connection with the ears of the slide and having a projection which is adapted to pass through the said opening in the slide and enter the recess in the rod on turning the reach into a horizontal position, substantially as desrcibed,
for the purpose specified.
