Description

Patented Oct. 6,1874.
UlvrTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.,
GOTTLIEB A. SOHLIENTZ, OF WINFIELD JUNCTION, NEW YORK.
\ IMPROVEMENT IN FOLDING CHAIRS. l
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,758, dated October 6, 1874 application filed August 19, 1874.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known tha-tI, GoTTLIEB A. SGHLIENTZ, of Winfield Junction, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Folding Chairs, of which the following is a specification:
This invention consists in a chair constructed of a seat and back which are pivoted to` each other, slotted, and combined with crosslegs, back rails, and arms, operating in such a manner that the back can be inclined to any degree, and that a chair is obtained which is neat and strong, while it folds and unfolds with great ease and facility.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side view when unfolded. Fig. 2 is a vertical cen tral section ofthe same. when folded.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.A
Theletter A designates the seat, and B the back, which arepivoted to each other at a,
which is at their inner ends, While near their Fig. 3 is a side view` provided with lateral notches or stops h,which fit the pivots i and serve to regulate the inclination of the back, a different notch being made to engage the pivots for a different inclination. The arms act upon the back rails, and through them the back is inclined.
To fold the chair, a slight pressure is first exerted on the front end of the arms E,where by the stops h are disengaged from their pivot, and at the same time the back rail and back are thrown forward, the pivot c of the back rail sliding in its slot in the back. The cross-l legs can then be readily folded together, and with the hind cross-leg is folded the seat, the pivot b of this leg working in its slot in the seat, while the cross-legs and seat are brought against the back rail and back, as shown in Fig. 3. l
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is-
The seat A and back B, pivoted to each other and provided with slots b b, which work on pivots c c, in combination with cross-legs C E, arms F, and back rails D, arranged and operating substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 12th day of August, 1874.
