H act description.
UNITED STATES ATENT 1 rica.
Joan F'RAZEE, on NEW ORLEANS,' LOUIS'IANA.
EGG-CARRIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 364,004, dated May 31, 1887.
Application filed April 12, 1881. Serial No. 234,517. (No model.)
To all whom/it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN FRAZEE, of New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Egg Receptacles or Carriers, of which the following is a full,.clear, and ex- This invention consists in an egg-carrier in roll form of novel construction, substantially as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims, the same constituting acheap, simple, and convenient portable package for carrying or transporting, by mail or otherwise, without risk of breakage, a number of eggs, each in aseparate compartmentfrom the others.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification,in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 represents a longitudinal view of my improved egg-carrier closed. Fig. 2' is a longitudinal view of the same open, with a couple of eggs in their places within the carrier. Fig. 3 is a transverse section upon the line a: min Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a transverse section upon the line 3 yin Fig. 2.
The body A A of the package, case, or eggholder is composed of a strip of pasteboard or other suitable material capable of being bent into and of retaining a roll form throughout 1 its length. The one portion, A, constitutes the main part of the body, and the other portion, A, the lid or opening and closing part thereof. The lid part may be made integral with the main portion A by longitudinally creasing or slightly inoising on its inner face and throughout its length, as at b, the strip of pasteboard or material of which the body is composed, so that the portion A will be united with the portion A as bya hinge. The curl of the two portions is such that the outer longitudinal margin of the opening and closing portion A will, when the roll or package is closed, slightly overlap the longitudinal margin of the main portion A, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. WVhen the roll or package is opened, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4., thelid portion A is thrown back and exposes a sufficient width of opening throughout the length of the main portion A to admit of the eggs B being introduced within said portion A-f The interior of the egg holder or earlier is divided transversely into any desired number of compartments, c,each capable of separately containing an egg, B, that may, if desired, be Wrapped in paper, cotton, or otherflocculent or suitable material. The partitions O,which, in connection with the body portions A A, form the compartments 0, may be made of wood, or of the same material as said body portions, or of any other suitable material, as desired. These partitions G are in the form of a disk of approximately the same or less area than that of the interior of the package when closed,-and are each made with ears or projections d d at opposite parts of its circular margin. These ears respectively fit the one in or through a slot, 6, in the main portion A of the body and the other in or through an opposite slot, 6, made partly in the body portion A and partly in the portion A. This construction provides forv the ready entrance of the partitions to their places when the lid portion A is thrown open, and also provides for the perfect retention of them in their'places. To hold the roll closed after the eggs have been inserted within the compartments 0, suitable catches, f, are provided atsuitable points in its length. These catches, as shown in the drawings, are composed of small pieces of pliable metal, permanently secured at their one end to the portion A, and passing attheir other end through apertures 9, formed in tongues p in the lid portion A of the body, and afterward bent overto hold said lid portion closed, as represented in Fig. 1. g I
An egg carrier or holder substantially as hereinbefore described will be found very safe and convenient for carrying or transporting fresh eggs for family use, fancy eggs for birdbreeders, and for various other purposes.
Having thus fully described my'invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In an egg carrier or holder of roll form, as described, the combination, with the main body portion A, having slots 6 in it, and the lid portion A, having opposite slots 6 in it,
arranged to extend also into the body portion 1 and provided with one or more apertures, g, 10 A, of the partitions 0, provided with ears or of the partitions 0, having ears d d and one or projections (l d, adapted. to fit within and more pliable catches, f, all substantially as dethrough the slots e e, substantially as and for scribed, and for-the purposes herein set forth.
5 the purposes herein described. JOHN FRAZEE.
2. In an egg carrier or holder of roll form, 'Witnesses: the combination, with the main body portion E. CHEXNAYDER, A, having slots 0, and the lid portion A, hav- 1?. L. FoURoHY,
ing slots e,extending into the main portion A, ERNEST RETIF.
