My invention relates to an improvement in 4 hasp-locks; and it consists in a certain novel construction and arrangements of parts for service, full yset forth hereinafter,and claimed.

My object is to provide a securer wh ch may be readily adjusted to allow for swelling or shrinking of the door, and which may be applied with equal effect to either a right or left hand door.

In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure l is a side elevation of my improved securer shown attached to a jamb and engaging with a staple or hasp on the door, shown in section. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the securer, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view thereof on the linen: x of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the device adapted for use on a righthand door;

Referring to the drawings, in which similar letters denote corresponding parts in all the figures, A designates the baseplate, which 1s adapted to be secured by screws to the amb B of the door, and in an opemng, a, 1n the sa d plate, a short distance from the front end, is journaled the projecting plvot c of the block 0. Said block is provided with the transverse threaded opening D, adapted to receive the threaded end of the double hook E, comprising the shank E and the hooks E E formed integrally with-the said bolt or shank, above and below,respectively, as seen in Figs. 1 and 4.

F designates a set-screw adapted to operate in a threaded opening, f, in the upper s de of the block 0, which opening communicates with the opening D at right angles thereto, and the lower end of the set-screw is adapted to bear against the side of the shank E to lock it from movement. The block 0 being swiveled, it will be seen that when not in use the hook will swing down out of the way, and when needed may be easily raised to engage 'thelowerhook, ,inthestapleGonthedoorH.

The securer, as seen in Figs. 1 and 2, is adapted for use on a left-hand d0or;but when desired for use on a right-hand door withdraw the shank of the hookfrom the block and insert in the other side of the said block, then swing the block around, and it will be seen that the hook E will now engage a hasp on, the door, as shown in Fig. 4. Therefore the reason for providing two hooks, as will be seen, is to enable the device to be used on either a right or left hand door, and by adapting the hook to be withdrawn from and reinsorted in the other side of the swivel-block the set-screw is caused to be always on the upper side of the block.

The length of the hook being adjustable, the plate carrying the said hook need not be secured to the jamb of the door at any particular distance from the hasp on the door, as the said hook can be lengthened or shortened to cause it to engage properly with the said hasp; also, any swelling or shrinking of the door, owing to seasoning, heat, or dampness, may be accommodated by adjusting the length of the hook. My device is also very strong, durable, simple in construction, (and-therefore cheaply manufactured,) is ornamental, and in point of utility is far superior to the ordinary forms of hooks,in that the door when fastened with this device cannot rattle, the hook having no lateral play on the plate, and the said hook being adjustable to take up play in the staple or hasp.

In a hasp lock, the plate A, block 0, swivcled thereon and having a transverse threaded opening, D, double hook E, having threaded shank E, to enter said threaded opening D, and set-screw F, to operate in a threaded opening, f, in the upper side of the block 0, and adapted to bear at the lower end on the side of the shank E, to lock said shank from movement, substantially as described.

2. A hasp-lock havinga pivoted block and a hook provided with a shank fitted in an opening in the block and adjustable longitudinally therein,as and for the purpose described.

3. The combination of a pivoted block, a hook having the shank fittedin the block, and

a set-Screw working in the block for binding the shank against movement therein, as and for the purpose described.

4. The combination, with a base-plate, of 5 an oscillating block pivoted to the plate and free to turn on its pivot at all times, and the hook having a shank fixed in the block to be carried by the same in its movements, as and for the purpose described.
