Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 36,100, dated August 5, 1362.

i To all whom it may concern.-

Beit known that I, GEORGE A. MEAOHM, of the'city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and valuable Improvement in Attaching Suspenders to Panialoons, applicable also to other purposes; and I do hereby declare that the following specication, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full and exact description thereof, prepared for the purpose of procuring a patent thereon. f

My invention is a peculiar construction of clasp for clasping the waistband of the pantaloons and supporting them without the aid of the buttons usually employed, the clasp being so constructed that while the hold upon the cloth is very firm, the direction of the strain may be varied ata considerable angle without tending to abrade the cloth or to loosen the hold thereon, thereby adapting the fasteningto the movements of the wearer and enabling it. to be attached to any desired part of the waistband without requiring any special care as to the direction in which thestrain is to fall, the clasp adjusting itself to the proper position. This quality of allowing the -xsuspenders to be attached to any point of the waistband is a very valuable one, as a slight change in the position of the point of suspenL sion will sometimes make considerable d'iiference in the set oila vpair ot' pantaloons, and

by my invention this change may be made with ease and facility.

By another pecularity in the construction of my' improved clasp it is adapted to a considerable variation in the thickness of the article clamped therein, whereby it is capable of application to thick and thin pants, and may also be made to support the drawers and pants both. together, ii desired.
