susPENDERs.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 615,474, dated December 6, 1898.
Application filed March 25, 1898.
T0 all whom t 17mg/ concern.-
Be it known that I, ROBERT H. BRAUCH, a citizen of the United States, residing in Iater-v son, county of Passaic, and State of New J ersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,
and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and' use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of my present invention is to provide simple and durable Suspenders which can be quickly and readily attached to and detached from the waistband of a pair of trousers and which Suspenders do not require any buttons and exert a uniform strain upon the waistband.
The invention consists in the improved suspenders, in the means for removablyT securing said Suspenders to the waistband of a pair of trousers, and in the combination and arrangement of the various parts, substantially as will be hereinafter more fully described, and finally embodied in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding.,r parts in each of the several views, Figure l is a perspective View of myimproved Suspenders, showing their connection with the waistband of a pair of trousers; Fig. 2, an `enlarged detail perspective view of one of the detachable front sections of said suspenders; Fig. 3, an enlarged detail front elevation of one of the members of the fasten- Serial No.6'75J097. (No model.)
and construction, consists of two straps c e, looped or bent around the bridge of the buckle and carrying at their free ends the members g and h, constituting a clasp by means of which the respective straps are removably secured to the waistband in a manner hereinafter described. The male member h of said clasp consists of a plate of sheet metal provided with an integral disk i at one end and with integral flaps or extensions c" i2 at its other end, by means of which latter the said plate is secured to and clamped upon the end of its respective strap c.
To the central portion of the disk t' is secured, in any desired manner, a pin 7s, having its free end rounded off, as at le', and provided with an annular groove 7a2, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 6 of the drawings.
The female member g of the clasp consists of a pair of spaced plates having at one end circular disks m0, provided with a centrall hole o, and having projections a' z', by which they are riveted together, while the other end of the upper plate is provided with flaps m m2, by means of which latter the said member is secured to or clamped above the free end of its respective strap.
Between the disks of the female member g are pivotally secured, as at 0', two arms or levers 02 03, having their inner edges curved and adapted to engage the annular groove k2 in the pin 7c of the male member When the latter has been inserted into the female member, as will be manifest. The lower ends of said arms or levers o2 o3 are connected by a flat spring p to normally hold said arms or levers in operative position, while their upper ends ing-clasp; Fig. 4, a central sectional view 0I Fig. 3; Fig. 5, an enlarged detail sectional view on the line c: a: of Fig. l; Fig. 6, a perspective view of the other member of the clasp, showingits shape before being secured to the Suspenders; and Fig. 7, an enlarged sectionalview on the line y y of Fig. 2.
In said drawings, A represents my improved Suspenders, comprising the shoulder-straps a 0 theremovable front sections h h, and the rear or back section c.
Each front section ZJ, which is removably secured to its respective shoulder-strap a by means of a buckle cl of any suitable shape project beyond the edges of the disk g, so that saidlevers can be conveniently operated, as hereinafter described. i. ,Y
It must be further stated that eyelets q, Fig. 5, are inserted into the waistband at the places where the Suspenders are to be attached to the said waistband to prevent the latter froln being torn.
It must be further stated that the back section c is constructed substantially in the same manner as the front'section b, with the exception that the straps constituting said back section are stitched to the shoulder-straps a a in the usual manner.
IOO
'Io avoid the detaching of the straps-e e from the bridge "of its respective buckled, one end of each strap penetrates a hole r in the other end thereof, as clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 5 of the drawings.
Vhen the Suspenders are to be attached to a pair of trousers, each male part of the clasp is first inserted into and through its respective eyelet in the waistband and is then engaged by or secured to the female part in a manner hereinafter described. By simply pressing together the projecting upper ends of the fulcrumed leversb2 o3 the latter are disengaged from the groove in the pin 7c of the male member, which latter can then be easily Withdrawn from the eyelet, as Will be manifest.
From the foregoing it can be seen that my improved Suspenders are of simple construction and can be readily attached to and detaehed from the waistband of a pair of trousers and that the use of buttons on the Waistband is entirely dispensed with. Furthermore, the strain exerted upon the waistbandV is uniform-that is to say, the waistband is engaged by the male member from the inside and by the female member from the outside, or vice versa.
I do not intend to limit myself to the preoise construction as shown and described, as
various alterations can be Inadewithout changing t-l scope of vmy invention; but
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- Y A garment-fastener comprising male and female members, the former consisting of a plate having an Vintegral disk at one end, integral securing-naps connected to said plate at the other end 'and an annularly-grooved pin projecting from said disk7 and the latter 4o member consisting of a pair of spaced plates each having an integral disk at one end, the latter being provided with an opening therethrough for the reception of said pin, integral securing-flaps connected to the other ends of 45 ROBERT H. BRAUCH.
